HELP! I want to quit my 9-5!!

I have been researching and implementing IM products and strategies for about 4 years now. I have yet to have a highly profitable campaign. I believe the main reason for this is because of my 9-5 JOB I am only able to put in 1-2 hours a day on my IM business. And everyone knows it takes a lot of time to build a solid IM business. I know that if I could put 100% of my time and efforts in IM that I would be able to, at least, support me and my family.(my wife is 8 moths pregnant with our first baby) I would love to have all the time in the world to spend with them.

I am a WF newbie but I am really happy i found this forum. Everyone here seems very helpful and knowledgeable. Any help or advice to get me out of my JOB will be greatly appreciated and rewarded.

If anyone is interested in a possible JV campaign to help me out of the daily 9-5 grind post a reply and we will take it from there.

It's very important to know how to manage your time.Even with your job, you can start a profitable IM career, if you know how to do it. Also,if you want to have a good and fast start, I suggest you to get on a coaching program with someone popular.

Or you can go the long way, and build yourself the career. And another good investition, worth 10x the price is the "WAR ROOM MEMBERSHIP".I suggest you to get it.

    All the best,
    Stefan Ion

I'd say coaching and focus. The coaching will keep you focused lol.

I've been on the WF for however long my profile says, but I've only been REALLY using it for 2 months. During that time I've progressed.

Constantly learning new skills and building from that. All I can honestly say that helps. And the WAR ROOM is honestly a treasure chest.

I'm curious about the War Room.

What does it provide that I can't find elsewhere on this site?

    Let me get this straight...

You've been dinking around with Internet Marketing for four years "researching and implementing", but you've yet to make any real money.

Your wife is a month away from delivering your first child.

And you want to quit your effing job to "go full time" into something you haven't been able to make work on a part time basis in four years? Are you freaking insane?

I've got a reality check for you...

Even if you quit your job, it doesn't mean you'll get to spend all that time with your wife and baby. Getting a real business off the ground is going to take time doing actual work, and that's time away from the family anyway. Even if you work from home, they'll mostly see the back of your head.

Add the pressure of having to support that wife and baby, and it will be even harder. You'll start looking at every move with an "it has to work, I can't afford to screw up" eye, and that can be paralyzing.

If you get health insurance and other benefits, those will stop the day you quit unless you plan to pay the usually outrageous premiums to keep the employer's policy.

To top it all off, if things don't work right away, you'll introduce stress and tension to your marriage. Even if she loves you wholeheartedly, the seed will be in the back of her mind that you threw away a paying job what is essentially a pipe dream at this point.

If you were my son or favorite nephew, and we were sitting at the kitchen table face to face, here's the advice I would give you...

For now, hang on tight to that 9-to-5. You have enough major changes coming to your life in the coming months. Having a job and a steady paycheck will provide at least one stable area while you both adjust to your new reality.

Keep working at your online business part-time, but use the changes in your life to add motivation and focus, not unnecessary added pressure. You've found a treasure trove of solid information here, and there's even more in the War Room.

Spend 1-2 focused hours per day working a solid plan, and you'll be spending time with your wife and child a lot sooner than you think.

      ^^ That!

Next best thing (what I ended up doing) is going part-time. You get less revenu but youre still making money and if worst comes to worst you go work fulltime again.

So true, in fact, you will probably have LESS time to spend with them then if you kept your job. Not only that but the time you do spend away from your IM business will be riddled with guilt because you are not making the kind of money you should be.

Instead of quitting your job, the smarter route would be to hold on to it and dedicate more of your free time to IM - taking action. If you haven't had a profitable campaign in the 4 years you have been doing this, I might suggest you take a good look at what you are doing and see where it could be improved or maybe just take a different route all together.

My sentiments exactly. To add to this you are lucky you have a 9-5 job and not a 12 hr. job, a leased farm of 53 acres, rental property with problems and still get my butt up at 2am in the morning to work the system while my husband is sleeping. I'm new at this. What were your goals 5 years ago? For sure as heck i will not be pondering 5 years from now whether I should leave my 12hr job, I know already what I want. THis is NOT a 9-5 job either. At least if you want to be succesful.

      Good Luck!

I also agree, any business starting up and you want to be successful at it takes planning and goal setting just like any offline business. You need a plan of action.

    1. What type of business are you passionate about . what do you find exciting?
2.What type of business you are desiring. (does it involve traveling.,do you want a home business<etc.
    3. Develop a plan of action, /consider the cost, time, money, work involve
    4. find a successful mentor to guide you, coach. training steps
    5. follow thru, learning is one thing ,but acting upon and following thru will determine your success

*Warning - Research First, Purchase Second*

After hearing your urge to quit your 9-5 (A bad idea IMHO), and hearing ThomasB suggest the Nuclear-Affiliate program... I decided to do some quick research. Here on the warrior forum, there is a review from the Warriors that received copies of this program as it was going live. You can read about it here... http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...ndrew-fox.html

As for your wanting to get into Internet Marketing for an income, I suggest you take under consideration that Internet Marketing (in your early ventures) is used as a "Secondary Income". Once you start making money online, you should use that to Re-Invest in what you have found to work.

What you should do... Keep your 9-5 job so you don't lose your car, house, wife, child, sanity, and possibly more. Next, go through all of your previously purchased Internet Marketing products and pick ONE of them. I would suggest picking one that has to do with strong skills you already possess.
Example: If you are good at writing, write a few free articles for Warriors here to get reviews, then ask for $1 per 100 words. Once you have some practice, you could create a blog promoting a clickbank/amazon product, or even adsense, and drive traffic to it.

It's not hard to make money on the Internet. Its hard to make a LOT of money QUICKLY on the Internet. Of course, once you are making money, and you have a technique that works, and people (Friends, JV's, or Hired Hands) to back you up, you can make a lot of money quickly using the skills you learn. But, it all starts with learning the basics, and working your way up.

If you don't feel that any of the products you have purchased can help you get started, try some of the free video guided systems out there. Do a Google Search for "Stealth Blogger" or "30 Day Challenge". Both are great for people that are new to Blog Marketing, and they can teach you the basics to get things moving. Just remember to pick 1 and build your business. It all takes time, planning, and a lot of hard work.

      Good luck!

    Ok wait a minute...

I have a 9 to 5 job, but I put in damn near 30 to 40 hours a week working on my IM stuff and then spend my weekends writing scripts. Additionally 1 to 2 hours a day is not bad, thats 14 hours a week.

It sounds like to me that you just need to budget your time better BEFORE you quit your job. It is also important to have goals. For example my goal was just $10 a day, to cover my car payment. Within two months I was making $20 a day and had discovered that affiliate marketing was the greatest thing (at least to me) since sliced bread.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I still keep my 9 to 5 because my IM income is so unstable, sometimes its $X per month and sometimes its $Y per month, but its still something. When it comes time to quit your job you better be matching your income and be prepared to scale up and outsource.

    Just my $.02...

John's words may seem harsh but he is right in what he is saying. You cannot give up your stable income when your wife is about to give birth - she needs security. I feel qualified to say this as a mother of four who has never been able to relax about money.

Instead try to work on IM giving you that little bit extra every month - your wife will respect you for that even if she has to put up with you being at your computer a lot. Gradually build it up and one day you will be able to walk away from the 9-5.

If I may say this I think that you probably need to rethink what you are putting your efforts into if you have not made any decent money after four years of trying. You are probably working very hard but maybe not on exactly the right things.

Anyway I wish you the best of luck - you are in the enviable position of having gotten yourself into IM before your family arrives which gives you every opportunity to build up a great income whilst he/she/they are still young. Then when they get to the point when they become really expensive (teenage years) you will be well prepared!

My husband also wants to quit his 9-5, but we can't do that until we can replace his income plus taxes and insurance. You just can't take chances once kids enter the equation.

For now, I would look through your old campaigns to see what worked. Ones that made some money can be grown to something bigger. Other than that, I'd say pick one project or one website that makes some money and commit to working on it for at least six months. Every day, write articles, get traffic, and increase your web presence. By the end of that time, that project should be making you a good amount of money.

I know my biggest problem so far has been trying different strategies or jumping from project to project. But if you pick one thing and stick to it, that's when you start to see success. Right now, we personally are just focusing on creating posts for Amazon sites for Christmas, and backlinking them until they rank on the first page. It's not very fun to write tons of articles for backlinks, but we're already starting to see results...

Look at it this way - shine a flashlight on something on a sunny day, and there's very little effect. Focus the sunshine on a small spot with a magnifying glass, and you can create fire.

As others above have said, find something that works a little and plays to your strong points, then focus on that. Narrow your 'researching and implementing' to that single model, then to the facet of that model that will let you make the next advance.

You'll surprise yourself with what you can accomplish in 1-2 focused hours per day.

          Easy there, big fella...

Jill is one of the good guys (one of the prettier ones, too).

The fact is, a) you are new to the Warrior Forum and b) you had only four posts. Neither Jill, nor anyone else, had anything else to base their judgments on.

You may know a lot and have a lot to offer, but until you've been around awhile and had a chance to become known, there's no way for anyone to know what you know or could offer.

Without some kind of context behind it, asking for a JV with anyone who might care to reply might sound suspicious.

Hang around, contribute to the community by asking good questions and providing good answers when you can, and it won't be long before you won't get that kind of reaction.

I think if you can't make something decent working 9-5 then I wouldn't jump into it. It's a very crowded field and losing your job at the chance is not worth it. Try committing yourself to learning and doing it well during both weekdays (1-2 hours) and weekends (9-15 hours). That should be plenty of time.

      John put it perfectly.

putting in only 1-2 hours a day it will take me forever to get where i feel i should be.
You are giving yourself excuses. If you worked 10 hours a week for 4 years - that's 480 hours. Lots of time.

I expect the problem is those hours aren't spent building something for yourself but are looking at things, learning more, reading sales pages, etc.

Decide what type of business you want to do online, make a plan of ACTION and spend 1-2 hours a day writing content, building sites, doing reviews, making your own product or whatever path you choose.

Many people here make full time incomes working part-time in IM while also pursuing full time jobs/careers and raising a family. It can be done - you just have to figure out how YOU will do it.

I would really advise you to be careful with the baby on the way.

As far as quitting your job, I am sorry to say that you will likely not be doing that before the baby comes, but you can start working to get yourself into that position.

I can speak from experience when I say that a wife and kids (or just an infant) around the house can make it VERY hard to get work done. When my first child was born, I was still working full time online. Within the first year of her life, my income had dropped 50%! I was actually making a lot before I got married, so we were still quite fine with 50%, but the point is that the wife and kids at home will keep you distracted. You really don't want to be forced into making something work fast in that sort of a situation. Your wife will be begging for you to spend time with her, help her change a diaper, watch the baby so she can nap, etc..

Over the years we have finally developed a way to make it work for us, but I just wanted to let you know that it's not easy and this isn't even the making money part.

I have to have a secluded office from everything else and when I'm there, the family pretends like I am not even here.

Great advice above..You have got some courage! Best advice I think it to take massive action in the time you do have to work. Analyze what you are good at and what will make the most money for you. Many times its building a list and simply marketing products to that list, or it could be cpa marketing,..whatever it is...you can do it! Good luck!

One of the things you can do is get up early in the morning like 5 o clock and you might have added another 2 hours to your already 2 hours a day. Of course it would cost you some resting time but hey sleep is overrated anyway. Most of us don't need the 8 hours the health guru's talk about, you probably need around 6,5 hours to live a healthy lifestyle.

Because I work night shifts it is a bit more difficult to work my IM efforts around it. So I will take a bit longer before I can quit my job maybe, but I don't have a 9 to 5 job. I work very much different times alway's. This makes that some day's I can work 4 hours on my IM business and sometimes I can't work on it at all.

But I stick to work on it, cos I want out of this job I am in right now and have lots of more great plans ahead of me.

I would say - save your money. Fact is you will need it to market your new product or service. What are your logistics like - meaning do you have warehouse space? An 800 number and people to answer questions and take orders from consumers?

    Hey Guys,

I'm going to go against the tide, and tell you to stop thinking about quitting your nine-five job. I honestly think that's an ideal goal, but you shouldn't be doing marketing online to just quit your 9-5. You should be doing it because that's what YOU want to do with your life.

On top of that, stop thinking that because you want to do IM, even if it's one to two hours daily, you will need to quit your job right away, or want to quit your job right away. I'm in a class right now, I'm in high school... Yet, I go home and I earn... My business runs on autopilot all day, it's the same thing as a 9-5 really.

For madcashmoney. I don't think Jill will be offended by what you said, she's a kind soul, you probably gave her a good laugh. However, I always tell people this, unless we know you, we can't trust you. It doesn't matter that I have 1300 posts here, if I had 100 posts here, I would (or might) still have the trust I have now. If you post quality/helpful posts, and release quality products that Warriors like, you will get attention here, and make friends.

You said it right, you don't start here with 100 posts. That's because you need to show us that we can trust you, then you get into the inner circle.

The craziest question in this thread, is what does the WAR ROOM have to offer that the regular WF doesn't? I think John Durham said this once "It's like taking a free ride through the WSO Forum"... So basically all the methods you see in WSO's, that cost $27, $17 $7 etc, probably have something close to it (And sometimes even the same.. when the author gives it away in the WAR ROOM), in the WAR ROOM. It's got everything you need to start a business.

And again, Allen Says gives tips there... A minute of Allen's time is probably worth more then the $37 to get in the WAR ROOM.

By the way...I do suggest as many have said above, that you hold onto that 9-5 and maybe use it as a motivating factor to work as hard as possible to build your business. Once you have a good nut stored up so you can pay your bills for a couple of months and have some regular cash coming in then ditch the 9-5.

Having a wife and children is a great responsibility and as a husband it is your job to provide for them...that's the way I look at it and it's a bit of a personal viewpoint but whatever...

Devote as much time as you can to actually working at your business. Time spent reading or researching etc, don't count. I know that I often go without sleep once I get rolling. I know of others that have worked around the clock during launches etc...sometimes there has to be a sacrifice and sometimes sleep is a small price to pay.

It really only takes 1-2 hours a day if you are consistent and focused. A lot of times I see people focused on niches that don't really have a market.

Do your research first to find the market you like. Make sure it is in Clickbank, Amazon, Ebay etc.

Do extensive keyword research on your market.

Find a domain with an appropriate keyword.

Develop your site and sales page with your affiliate products.

Go after traffic by backlinking your site with articles, Web 2.0, forums etc.

Once you start getting sales create your own product to replace the affiliate products.

Don't Stop! Consistency is the key. Once your build your habit pattern it will stick.

Good Luck and congrats on the baby.

Sorry, you aren't going against the tide - no one told him to quit his job. That would be utterly stupid.

There is no "inner circle" here and the view of some "privileged clique" gets mentioned too often. There are those who have been around for a while - and those who are new. Some know what they are talking about - and some don't. Some are trusted because their advice has worked. Earning trust is important and takes some time, especially if there's nothing but a forum name.

Sorry guys for disturbing. I know it is very unusual to tell me what is IM business.
Gee - you are on an Internet Marketing forum - and you don't know what IM is?

I agree with everyone else - keep that job before you sack it for a none paying job.

you've spent a lot of time in this without any reward by the sounds which begs the question, have you being working 2 hours a day on your business or just been a consumer/browser for 4 years?

don't look for a jv until you have something that coverts, if you haven't then find someone who as and asked them if you can promote their goods for them until you know what you're doing (you know; some proof that you can either sell or drive traffic)

my last suggestion is this, get organised, set yourself achievable goals, create a folder on your desktop call it work/job whatever flicks your switch, then within that folder create 7 more folders named by days of the week, create a task sheet in each and do the daily tasks that are building up to achieve your goals instead of doing whatever it is you've been doing because it clearly isn't working, then test measure change test measure until youre getting more money than your job pays you in a year

Good luck - keep the job!!!

yeah now that i think about it, the first 3 and a half years i have been a "consumer/browser" and i didn't even have my own domain. I am really passionate about IM but i didnt really know where to start. But when i found out that i had a little one on the way i stepped it up a little and finally got a domain and started building a list. Now I am building lists in several niches. I am also in the process of creating my own product.

just wanted to thank everyone again for all the great advice!

I just joined here too as well as the war room (what a great place) and as an expert in teaching left- and right-brain business plan courses I often see one common theme amongst those that will take that business plan and run with it vs. those that put it on a stack of papers and stay stuck: not doing what you're truly passionate about.

Yes, you can learn all the techniques and even get great at them and make money at them. I made my big money in real estate but it wasn't until I found my true passion (helping others find abundance) that I started to feel truly abundant myself.

    What is your passion?
Do your sites and products reflect your passions?

This forum has been great for research, although I'm still trying to figure out how to post 'thank yous' but if you stay consistent and don't give up - riches and freedom will be yours.

I'm in your situation 3 years back.

I know how it feels like when you are met with this kind of challenge.

The best way to do is to focus on what you want to do. Remember one step at a time and do not rush or else you will fumble.

First of all, do of what you want to do.

For me, I would start to build a list first. It is a tough and challenging task as you are not sure which step to do first.

Once you have a list, you can do lots of things like selling your own product or promote an offer.

Once you have maintain a passive income, then you can re-invest some of your profits to expand on your business.

Hope it helps and inspires you,

John hit the nail on the head with his first post on this one.

You can do a lot with 1-2 hours a day of you have a plan of action in place. Set up goals for you to complete each day.

Example Schedule (Assuming you have a niche, blog and posts with product reviews)

    Monday
Write and submit 1 article to the top 10 article directories
Create 1 video with Animoto and distribute it with TubeMogul
Write a blog post and ping it using Pingler

    Tuesday
Write and submit 1 article to the top 10 article directories
Create 1 video with Animoto and distribute it with TubeMogul
Visit and register to related forums and post 5-10 times

    Wednesday
Write and submit 1 article to the top 10 article directories
Create 1 video with Animoto and distribute it with TubeMogul
Create 5 web 2.0 sites and bookmark them using OnlyWire

    Thursday
Write and submit 1 article to the top 10 article directories
Create 1 video with Animoto and distribute it with TubeMogul
Visit and register to related forums and post 5-10 times

    Friday
Write and submit 1 article to the top 10 article directories
Create 1 video with Animoto and distribute it with TubeMogul
Visit and register to related forums and post 5-10 times
Create 5 web 2.0 sites and bookmark them using OnlyWire

**You can also write an extra article per day to get links back to your videos or web 2.0 sites**

You can either take the weekend off or work it until you start to get some money in and reinvest that into your business and sign up with aweber and start building your list. But if you can afford aweber right now I suggest you get that now and start building your list asap.

This was just a sample plan. You can set it up anyway you need to. Mine is similar to that but I have about 6-8 hours per day so I can do a lot more.

I wish you all the luck and I really do hope you stick it out because if you do you will succeed. All it takes is hard work, dedication and a solid plan.

Dude, figuare out what business model it is that you want, your own products? affiliate marketing?

You've got a family, like myself and its hard to find time no matter what your doing. keep your day job, any spare cash you have use to outsource the work and manage the people that carry out the work on your internet business.

Head over to john jonas blog about outsourcing, he's got tons of free info there about outsourcing the work

This way when you do make an online income that matches you jobs income, you can leave your job and be able to spend enough time with the wife and kids.

Good luck and keep at it, and make a start, in life theres a price to pay, sacrifice is one of them...

Sounds like you want a long-term business that generates you consistent income on a monthly basis. If that's the case, forget all the bright shiny new methods you've probably seen here and elsewhere, but instead concentrate on building a targeted and responsive email list which is a long-term asset that can be consistently monetized.

I know exactly how you feel as far as time and the 9 to 5. You can make that two hours work for you it seriously depends on what you are doing with that two hours every day. I'm still learning myself, however I can testify that as long as you stay committed and consistent, you will begin to find more and more time.

I started marketing online while running my "real" business during the daytime back in 1997. I was working 50 hours a week on my regular job and already had a kid (with 2 more coming)... I got home from work, dinner with the fam, kid to bed... and then I started working online... from 9pm to 3am. I worked 6 hours a night for 6 days a week. I did this for 4 years before I sold my business and went fulltime with my internet business.

So, in effect, I worked approx 86 hours a week for 4 years while setting up my online business.

I'm not saying this is the only way to do it... As a matter of fact, its much easier today. You don't have to learn HTML or PHP or software like dreamweaver.

So maybe you don't have to work as hard as I did. But, I would submit that your problem might be desire - or lack thereof. If you want this more than anything else, then you can find more than 2 hours a day to work on it.

Its nice to talk about doing this fulltime, but you gotta be willing to do what NOBODY else is doing to make it. That means working your A$$ off.

When I was working like that, all my buddies thought I was crazy. They looked down on what I was doing and joked about it. Now, I make more money than all of them. They quit laughing about it a long time ago. You should read the chapter about desire in think and grow rich...

Thank you so much for sharing this post and not sugaring things over. Sometimes people get the impression that some are making it big on the internet with no effort at all. We all know that's not true but sometimes we forget. Great to see you reap the rewards of your labor!
PS: And I'm sure your family is amazingly lucky to have such a hard working father and husband at home.

        Abundance-University,

You may want to check your signature link. I believe you added an extra character after the word "Abundance" in your link. It is not going to your page when clicked.

        best of luck,
        Justin

Get all the information you can get your hands on about marketing to local businesses. Promoting products that pay $10 to $20 commission takes too long and the money is just not there. I market my services to local businesses and there's good money in it. I work mostly at night when the house is quiet and I communicate with my clients mostly by email.

Hi!! Just like to post that I share your sentiments. I guess all of us wanted to spend time with our family. My situation's actually much more difficult - I have 4 kids behind a demanding engineering job. I literally struggle to find the time for my IM business for a year, until I got to organised at least 30 mins. daily to develop my skills. I'm surprised now that I am even finding time reading posts in this forum. I am just new here and I like it.

My advice to you: Find the time for your IM. Even if it's 30 mins. a day. And everyday, don't miss your 30 mins. Miss a meal but not your 30 mins. It will pay-off if you take the discipline.

Hoping for your success. Just PM me for anything I maybe of help.
