Damn spammy lists with... oh wait

I just got a series of emails in my inbox which positively infuriated me.

Some jerk IMer was sending email from a "support" address, so I couldn't see who it was.

I had like eight emails from him, all with the same subject line.

And that subject line was "Congratulations, you made a commission."

So I angrily opened up the email and scrolled down to hit unsubscribe, but the ******* didn't even have an unsubscribe link.

Now I'm furious, and start looking for more information in the email about who the hell sent this thing and how to go report him to his list provider and his web host and PayPal and his merchant account and, well, everybody.

I mean, really, I'm going to make this [deleted] pay. I'm so sick of these fake commission emails.

At which point I discover that they're not fake.

Two days ago, I started a new promotion for an affiliate product I'd never sold before.

Apparently, it converts.

Perhaps that was spam - right here in the warrior forum. Spam! Who would think..

But I really am happy someone actually made use of something that came to their spam folder.. I don't have time to look at all the spam that comes to mine ( I have created several gmail accounts just to keep from getting distracted )..

Sorry Sir, the whole thread was a joke. It hasn't even been looked at for sometime.

There was no spam at all. It was a jokey!

    Hey Caliban,

    You aren't alone.

I receive similar letters since three weeks. I read one from among them. And the unsub link also was missed. I delete them without reading since then.

[bold]Supplement[/bold]: I'm sure they were fake because I did promote nothing.

I also receive another kind of emails. The sender wants to give the impression that as if I would be the addressee and the sender. The fate ot these messages is the immediate deletion, of course.

Some men are most inventive. Unfortunately, uses his inventiveness for others' vexation.

What can you do against them?

If there was anyone that I would bet my money on could get his point through without confusion it would be Caliban. But more than half of the replies here did not read the OP properly... This is not Rant about SPAM, Caliban actually made sales that he thought were spammy.

Is this an Indication of how well many people read before they answer all threads, because if it is that is scary.

Makes me think how many 'IM is BS' complainers never actually read anything properly they bought.

This is so true, Cathy. Another annoying habit I've noticed is for people to make nonsensical comments and pronounce snap judgments on a thread before even reading through all the posts. Granted, some of the threads are long and the price of admission is at least scanning through some of the comments, but it seems like many of these people are commenting quickly just for the sake of getting their post count up!

I Know, I used to be so mild and forgiving and felt quite bad when senior warriors went off at some unknowing newbie. In a way I still am, but WOW to just assume from a heading you know what a thread is about is just not right.

I love that you call it 'price of admission' that is so true. I like posting on this forum to. it gives me a feeling of interaction but atleast try and look like you are adding value when you post.

Cathy, I think you still are. It's just that it is happening more and more lately on the forum. Eventually, you reach the point where you just have to let it out. Guess that's why a lot of the more experienced members seem to have shorter fuses. In truth, they've just seen even more of this crap than we have.

Cathy ... most of them don't read. I can't tell you how many customers I have who send me an email saying ... I can't install this. There's no instructions. I know, it's absolutely hilarious. It's like we live in an age where people don't read anymore - all they want is to be spoon-fed with videos or at the very least an audio recording. I don't know what this world is coming to - people aren't willing to read any more, and it reflects (quite badly, I may add) in their grammar and spelling; they spell like they speak due to the fact that they are too lazy to read!

The takeaway from this for me is as follows:

    1. Not everybody wants the emails that say "Congratulations, you made a commission."
    2. Many people only read about half a forum post before they jump in and have their say!

On a personal note, I dislike the tricks some people use to get you to open their email messages, things like "Have you collected your commission yet?". If they use those tricks against me, they often find their unsubscribe link is used.

I don't mind them, really, but I get so many of the fake ones that ANY unfamiliar subject line of that nature causes a knee-jerk "unsubscribe" response.

      2. Many people only read about half a forum post before they jump in and have their say!
Yeah, I've been thinking of doing a list-building exercise where I have a really attractive headline and graphics, then say horrible things in the body copy like "We do not respect your email privacy. We will rent, sell, lease, and give away your email address to anyone at all whenever we feel like it. We will deliver no value, pitch anything and everything that might pay us a commission, and may very well come over to your house and pee on things."

Then I'll queue up 180 messages in an autoresponder that have some generic "oh boy are you going to like this" message and an affiliate link to a totally random Clickbank product.

I'll put the list stats on a real-time dashboard, and charge people $30 a month or $3 a page load to look at them. Every month, I'll release a report on what products I sent the list and how well they converted. And every year, I'll release a big $197 product about everything that happened so far.

I will make absolutely no effort to hide this from anyone on the list, and when I get nasty email from the members about what a jerk I am, I'll post it on a blog where we can all laugh at it.

That means that at least half of your customers are taking the time to really look at what you have to offer

I'm a guy. I don't ask directions or read instruction manuals. And when someone writes concerning PMs, it looks like PMS, so I disregard it, since PMS isn't a guy thing.

Only slightly more seriously, perhaps I'd better look more closely at those types of emails. I get a lot of them with that or a similar heading. My general habit is to delete without reading. Who knows, maybe I really do have some money somewhere.

Nice moral there, Caliban. Never assume, and don't let your preconceived notions get in the way.

CDarklock, Shall I send an email to you with a subject line "Congratulations, you made a commission."

Definitely, you open it and perhaps I'll make a commission.

Actually, I can see the amount of the commission in the preview... so now that I know they're real commissions, I don't need to open them.

Exactly Cathy, especially when it's pretty obvious from the OP and then the comments.

Sadly in this case, "Alwaysready" wasn't really...ready. Amazing really when 3 posts above that I reminded someone...

Sorry Sir, the whole thread was a joke.

No, Richard, some people just live. And by "live" I mean "maintain the biological processes which clinically define life"...
