Originality in Article Marketing

I was just reading Steven Heron's article entitled Backlinks for Beginners and have a question about originality in article marketing.

I understand the reason why articles need to have original content. My question is if they need to be 100% original, or if it is alright to have a small portion be duplicated content.

The reason is because I would like to increase the authority of my website for the keyword "naturopathic medicine"

My plan is to write a series of articles entitled "Naturopathic Medicine for ..."

I was thinking about including a paragraph at the beginning of each article defining naturopathic medicine, since the audience may not know.

So my question is: can I include the same paragraph at the beginning of each article, or will I be shooting myself in the foot because this would be picked up as duplicate content?

Thanks in advance!

Having the same text as first paragraph in a number of articles - on your own site or for article directories may not be a good idea
    For your site
What about posting a link to a page/post for further info
    for article directories
most will allow two links in bio box
use one to link to the definition
    good luck with it

No, you're not going to be shooting yourself in the foot.

Google looks at the ent as a whole. So, even though that one paragraph is the same,90% of the actual "page" that the paragraph is on is completely unique from the other pages. So you do not have to worry about it.

      Talk soon,

That's what I had figured, but wasn't sure. Thanks, Shannon!

You can use the same paragraph without worrying.

However, there's one more issue you could be overlooking...Make sure all of your articles can stand on their own. You never know who is going to link to your articles, or where they will wind up. People who stumble upon them may only see 1 article, instead of the whole series.

Don't use titles like "Naturopathic Medicine Part 2". If I haven't read Part 1, I automatically feel out of the loop, and I'm far less inclined to read your article. Instead, treat them all like separate articles (like "The Benefits of Naturopathic Medicine", "Common Questions about Naturopathic Medicine", and so on)

      Thanks, Nicole.

My idea was Naturopathic Medicine for Diabetes, Naturopathic Medicine for Weight Loss, Naturopathic Medicine for Fertility, and so on.

Will that serve the purpose well?

If I understand it right you can have same article with the condition to change some words in the text. It will make google "confused" and will not make it a duplicate content.
