Hi Guys

Not been on here for a while.

Just over a month ago I came on here to discuss the fact that I had been invited to do my first IM speaking gig in London alongside people like Matt Bacak, Sean Roache, Adam Ginsberg etc.

I talked about how nervous I felt about doing this as I get the whole nervy thing happening when I speak in public (I was even nervous doing my groom speech at my wedding)!

I got a great deal of advice and encouragement from other warriors so I thought I'd report in and let everyone know how it went.

It was a total blast!

I was due to speak on the Sunday, so I got virtually no sleep on the Saturday night, going through the whole thing in my mind. This was really stepping outside my comfort zone and I was very concerned that it may all end in tears etc.

The moment came for me to be called up on stage and I had the whole butterfly's thing happening. Dry mouth, shaky hands etc.

Long story short, I was determined to deliver value to the attendees so I gave them a step-by-step method they could use and start on as soon as they got home. At the end of my talk I was promoting my 1 year internet mentoring programme and I thought if I got a couple of new mentoring clients that would be fine.

The upshot was.... (blow my own trumpet time here

I outsold all the other speakers by a factor of 3 to 1 !!

I was totally shell-shocked!

I was talking to Matt Bacak at the bar that evening and he said, "Roy, you whipped my ass and not many people do that". That was a special moment for me and coming from Matt it meant a lot (lovely guy, by the way).

The main advice I got on this forum before the event was to just relax and be myself. I tried hard to relax (didn't work), but I did just get up there on stage and be myself. Seemed to work and I think I now have the speaking bug!

So, I just wanted to say that if any of you are holding back on taking action because it takes you outside your comfort zone, my advice would be to go for it!

Wonderful things can happen if you just grab the bull by the horns and do it!

Congrats Roy, Actually I am facing the same dillema right now. I know I can make a ton of money in the next few weeks if I only had the guts to speak inf ront of a crowd. You gave me more confidence.

Jan - Set yourself a goal to do your first speaking event. You won't regret it!

Ryan - Hopefully that will happen. i've had a few people contact me about speaking at their events now, so maybe next year sometime.

getting up in front of people and being yourself has always been alot of fun for me and it should for anyone else

we all put on our clothes the same one limb at a time people are no different they love speakers that are themselves

That's great Roy! The good thing is it will get easier! It's usually the anticipation that's the hardest. I've heard Sean Roach speak before and Matt and Adam so you were up against some top live speakers plus at the end of the seminar when people are tiring so your results are even more powerful.

Thanks. Yep it was the anticipation that was the worst, definitely. Once I was actually up there on stage it got better after a few minutes in.

An hour on stage seems like a heck of a long time when you are anticipating it, but seemed to fly by once I was up there.

Congrats Roy!

Public speaking is a huge fear of mine as well even though I used to be a classroom speaker 25 yrs ago when I was in the USAF.

I fear I'd wrap up a 60 minute speech in 13 minutes just to get off the platform so I could breathe again, but like jan roos mentioned in his post, I know I could make a great deal more money if I could just quit shaking and sweating just thinking about it.

I've seen Matt speak a couple times now and he is a very generous and pleasant guy. At one recent event I seen him at he bought dinner for about 30 of us at a steakhouse down the street from the event on a Sat night for no reason other than he offered to.

  I really appreciate your comments. Like I said, it was the encouragement I got from members of this forum before the event that really helped in my approach to how I felt about it all.
  
  So glad I went ahead and did it (and it helped that it was successful, otherwise I'd probably think twice about doing it again)
