Promotion of an adult toys shop

Hi!

We've created an online store selling adult toys. It was launched less than 2 months ago. We did on-site optimization before launching.

We need to attract target audience as fast as possible without risk of getting banned by Google.

I think we should:
1. As a long-term goal and just to get higher rankings - write good unique articles to place in our blog to promote certain topics. For example, write article about vibrators and put a link inside, leading to "vibrators" section of the store.
2. For now, to get visitors as fast as possible, write simple articles (outsource?) and publish them on top-10 article directories, each articles having a link to its section in our store.

What could you advise?

1. I've seen ads of software like "Nuclear Traffic Maximizer" and "Nuclear Backlink Service". Will that work for us? If yes, what's the best way to use that soft?

2. Should we create some additional sites (satellites?) for key topics (vibrator, dildo, sex toys, strap on, etc.)?
For example, we could create a separate blog for dildos, that would contain links to dildos section of our store. And then we would write articles to article directories with link to our store and that blog?...

Please, help us to make a correct start!!

Thank you!

Perhaps you should have started your business model backwards so to speak.

    1. Figure out where and how your going to get your targeted traffic first. I would have if I were trying to sell anything adult related.

Well... i was thinking that the business will be profitable (apart of usability etc.) if we rank high on keywords, related to our products. Like, being #1 on vibrators will definitely bring some customers...

Sure, there are some spots where our target audience "sits" - these are women's blogs like blogher.com for example.

The 'Adult' market is extremely tough. You are going to have to put in place a serious ongoing programme of promotion & marketing.

The very nature of what you do will get you banned from a lot of the usual promotional avenues.

I would advise writing articles about love, dating, how to meet people, what to wear on first dates etc etc. Relationship and love stuff is neutral and you'll be able to use that on other sites, more than the adult content.

Why would you be banned by google? What for? You can buy adsense ads for "vibrators", google has mad love for adult content.

I'm OK about adult content - I'm talking about different methods of promotion, like mass article distribution, or link-wheels or paid links that will eventually do me no good...

Vibrators can mean a LOT of things!

    Whole Body Vibration « Soloflex

    Why should they filter words?

Most "adult" related sites seem to use VERY black hat means, or have like minded sites link to them.

BTW I hope you thought it out. Some merchant accounts require special terms for "adult" related stuff! It is considered a HIGH RISK category! Of course, the same is often true elsewhere ALSO!

      Hi, Steve!

Sure, you are absolutely right. Vibrator is just one of the keywords we need. We've got full assortment of toys, so you can imagine... I used the word "vibrator" just for example to illustrate possible strategies... Your enlightenment on the strategy for us is be very appreciated!

Look into Media buys for sure. That's probably going to be the most cost efficient way to get started and after you are making some money, you will have more of a budget to be competitive in other ways. Media buys however can make you ALOT of sales. Just look into it and do it right.

Thanks for the idea... But what is "Media buys"? And how to use them?

Like purchasing hits or impressions or views on a certain site. For instance you promote your banner on xxxsite (dot) com they charge you $.10 cents for 1000 views. if you have a Click through rate (CTR) of 1% you get 10 people to your site for $.10. Google media buys or search it here there are lots of post on the topic

Have you taken a look at some of the sex related articles on the big directories. They are packed with articles or reviews of sex toys, techniques and enhancers. There is no reason why you can't do the same. You're only going to get busted if you link your "how to be a better lover" article back to mega-porn-tube.com .

Same goes for link wheels, you can use all of the 2.0's for sex and lifestyle related topics. There are bondage and rope technique sites on wordpress.com with links back to retail sites and the same goes for the rest of 'em.

Most "adult" related sites seem to use VERY black hat means
Can you back that up with proof. Most adult sites are no more black-hat than your typical internet marketing sites.

For an adult related toy shop you can use just about every method that is used by everybody else here on WF.

Adsense if fair game as well. Type in some adult related keywords into google and check out the ads showing up.

Adult and Porn are not the same and like I said before, google loves adult just as much as any other niche.

Write an article about how the kama sutra extreme cream is going to spice up your sex life and submit it to articlebase with a link back to your shop, I bet you a fiverr it'll be accepted.

Start a lense on squidoo about the benefits of kama sutra with a link back to your shop and I'll bet you another fiverr it'll be accepted.

Actually as someone who has been in the adult webmaster game since 1999, I can tell you that it's not the same as promoting mainstream.

Your methods of getting traffic are submitting to link lists, submitting to thumbnail gallery posts, submitting to tube sites, submitting to niche directories and buying traffic and trading traffic with others through a traffic script. It's a totally different game than this. Go to the forum gfy.com and have an open mind and a thick skin and someone will help you.

        Thank you for the advice!

However I cannot get rid of the fear, that Big G. will find me one dark night and do something terrible , because I was using such methods (as you describe) in my past.

Spot on. Also, are you doing this as a dropshipping business or are you taking inventory? You will have to do a lot of research to be ranked higher than adam and eve and the other established site, most likely long tail type stuff. Dropshipping you have to be careful that you have the margin to do your promotions. If you take inventory, consider a toy party...

      Thank you!

What I think is maybe for kama sutra simple article submitting is OK, but what about, say, rabbit vibrator? Just post and post and post articles and some day I will be on #1 place of "Big G."? Or maybe there are some cleverer ways?

The most effective way of finding the best keywords for you is to do competitor analysis. See what keywords your competitors are using and what kind of promotion they are doing. You can follow the same and find other ways to overtake them. It really works!

My first run at marketing anything online was an adult based site.

Unfortunately, I found it was too competitive, and aside from a few affiliate sales through AdultFriendFinders network, and 2 physical products sold... I changed niche markets.

However, I didn't know much about marketing anything online back then, so I if approaching that market now...

Paid ads, ppc, newspapers, classifieds, etc.

I would try to get 'endorsements' or sponsored partnerships through syndicated content, articles, stories, on adult forums and discussion boards...in addition to paid ads.

In a quick search, I found a brilliant example of an article featured (syndicated) in Forbes magazine. (link below)

But first, I am still pissed I was unable to sell even 1 of Jimmy Janes diamond encrusted platinum vibrators. I thought fo sure that $3,000 item would be a hit, and I'd earn a $300 (10% commision)

Nothing Says “I Love You” Like A Million-Dollar, Platinum And Diamond Vibrator - The Frisky

Found another cool new breakthrough in technology... I think being on top of trending innovations could help you also, keeping people informed of stuff like this... (whoda'thunkit?)

Sell that "Flesh Light" product. You'll become a millionaire overnight HAHAHA lol.

No seriously, you should study how companies and even affiliates make crazy money by advertising on the tube sites. SEO is obvious, and some PPC companies are recommended too.

I didn't worked with any adult sites. But I can say that for adult sites you have to focus on SEO, if you try to drive some traffics from Social Medias then thats not a good deal. You'll get banned easily. Try to drive tarffics from SEO.

facebook doesnt even allow advertising ppc for facebook ads for sex toys, even sexy lingerie is a thin line it seems

  • It depends if your drop shipping or have actual inventory or affiliate marketing.

If you have your own inventory then you should look into finding affiliates to push your products. Look for sites that target women. Women will be your best customers.

Also look into using marketing channels like amazon and ebay to get customers.

Finally you can buy cheap traffic from adult traffic brokers. Look at trafficjunky.com

    good luck

Don't believe the nay sayers OP, there are still some great opportunities in the NSFW niches.

These niches are gigantic because what people say in public and do in the comfort of their own homes are completely different.

My tips are don't mix mainstream stuff (AdSense, PayPal) with NSFW stuff. And become more social. I'm trying it with my new site.

    ppc - targeted buys

    articles, - loyal buyers

    fb ads, - mood buyers.

That is what I think, in thousands of sales. I am not longer in adult toy biz, but for us, BANNER ads on NAUGHTY sites also use to work rediculously well.

Its a great niche to make sales, but most people get it wrong. There is huge traffic out there, but you need to pick the right one for what you are selling.

    hope it helps.
