Need Help with Autoresponder Choice

So I've been building sites and blogs for awhile and doing ok but I've realized that I need to start doing optin lists etc and know I need a good autoresponder. I've narrowed it down to a few based on advice from a few 'gurus' I trust, but I can't decide if it's better to go script or service.

I was leaning towards aweber or getresponder for services and autoresponder plus for script but being completely new to this aspect I have no idea what I features I should be looking for etc.

I have a rather large network, will eventually want to send out a dozen newsletters, and have a dedicated server.

Advice/opinions would be appreciated.

  • I use Aweber. It has all the bells and whistles. There is probably something else out there that works even better, but Aweber works for me, and I'm all about not fixing what isn't broken...if that makes sense.

    • I also use aweber, its easy to use and they have loads of videos showing what to do. Not the cheapest, but works well.

  • See, some people have success with aweber. I find it as more spammy, if you catch my drift.

I would work on builing quality, high, backlinks. Then when you get tons and tons of traffic try the e-mail approach.

    • AWeber is a good choice for autoresponder that will
      scale with your company too.

      AWeber spammy?

Do you talk out of your arse full-time or just on a part-time
      basis?

      Dedicated to your success,

    • Yes, I have done this, which is why I'm now ready to start doing mailing lists.
  • I too would recommend Aweber
  • Anyone else willing to chime in on their chosen/favorite autoresponder? I also could use some advice about what 'bells and whistles' I should be looking for. I seriously have never had any opt-in experience whatsoever so any and all help is appreciated.

    • I've been using a company from Canada called Response Magic for the last 6 years...great deliverability and a smaller company so I've found a lot more responsive to my needs.

I have quite large optin lists with them and no problems with getting the email to inbox.
  • I use getresponse and it's very good.

    • I also use a private label version of aweber called autorespondergenerator. This is exactly the same as profollow mentioned above.

The advantage with both of these is you get the aweber interface - it's actually aweber, but you pay a lot less per month.

  • I don't know about getresponse, but aweber seems to be pretty popular among us. It's actually pretty easy to use, even for a beginner.
  • I've been using Listwire for a few months now and I'm impressed.
  • Any other opinions before I make my choice? Aweber seems to be the favourite but I've heard a few times they have a higher spam rate than the rest which worries me.

Also concerned about customers havin to reconfirm if I import any names.
  • trafficwave is another one
  • I've not used A Weber - I researched it when I was starting to build my mailing list and publish my newsletter but I honestly can't remember what it was that tipped the scale to Get Response. However, I have had great luck with Get Response. There's nothing I like better than "set it and forget it" functionality and theirs has worked as well as I could ask.

Good luck - and let us know what you choose and how well you like it, okay?

  • I use Aweber & I love it. The thing is there are only really 2 email platforms that a high majority of marketers use (when they are starting out), this is Aweber, & GetResponse. However, MailChimp is rising, but its not really integrated.
And this is the KEY: INTEGRATION.

You want to select one that has the best integration with various Plugins, as well as is compatible with your sites. Is your sites all on the Wordpress platform?

Also, it takes time to build a list. It may even be best to pay for the whole year, so you won't see the cost outlay in the beginning. After a certain level of opt-ins, you will then be charged an additional monthly fee -- I believe it's around 500 Subscribers. There's really not another better deal out there. But that "extra" fee, many people don't really talk about that much.

In regards to tracking, tracking is definitely good whereas, you can customize the URLS, as well as they have a good back end to analyze your results.

If you were looking at 40,000 optins plus, I would suggest Constant Contact. This is for very high level lead management & email newsletter marketing. This is what some Education Publishers like Kaplan use. However, when you are at that level, you also need to be able to bear that type of cost as well.
  • Hey Raradra

As you list grows and you need more advanced segmentation and features you will use a range of autoresponders like Shaun and myself. However for you circumstances at the moment I would settle for using aweber. It's a fantastic service, it's had 10 years in the industry and it's really easy to learn, you don't really need to read the instructions (I advise you do though).

It's great for scalability so start there and then worry about using other autoresponder when money permits that it is worth spreading your lists over a range of autoresponders. If you need any help with the content of your emails be sure to send me a PM I would be glad to help you.

    • Thanks Josh! That's very helpful advice and an awesome offer as well
  • Got to be Aweber, 6 months on not one problem!

  • In my opinion and from experience
Aweber - Rolls Royce of Autoresponders
Get Response - More like Toyota Camry
  • Never used one myself, but everyone seems to rave about aweber
  • aweber. its simple the best and works for me very well. never had issues using it.
  • I use Get Response and never had a problem with them. Aweber and iContact are also good.
  • Joshua,

Who do you use for your list? I do some segmenting with aWeber by using different signups, but I have a friend that has a highly segmented list and uses NetAtlantic.

    • Hi Cma01
      I use
      Get response
I use this one when I need to move a list so don't need double opt in
      Aweber
Lyris HQ allows me to do customer demographic segmentation with my custom software designe for me
      1shoppingcart
only use 1 shopping cart because some clients use it, not really a fan of it
      infusionsoft
for event based tracking, and greater segmentation especially for my automated webinar system.

      aweber private label
better advanced segmentation than normaly aweber and better analytics
and a few small autoresponders for my offline clients

I have all my lists phase to each program so I have access to them all on each platform I want at the time for my personal business. This is more expensive and time consuming but shows rewards depending on what I want I can have all the disadvatnages of one autoresponder covered by the advantages of another

  • I use imnica mail from fellow warrior, I think his WSO is still there.
  • Aweber hands down.
  • Yep it's got to be aweber for me. If you are concerned about using there own web form and not being able to create your own forms on landing pages etc. You don't need to worry they have great support and will help you develop web forms.
  • I went with aweber. Thanks for all the advice from all Time will tell how it goes but I've created my first 2 lists. (Been needing to do this for a year but dreading something else to learn)

    • Congratulations on a great choice raradra.

I'm sure that with AWeber you'll be in safe hands.

You'll find loads of useful tutorials within AWeber on how
to get the most out of their autoresponder system and
you can always contact their support staff to help with
      your specific queries.

      Good luck.

      Dedicated to your success,

      Shaun
    • Congratulations and great choice IF I do say so myself. Be sure to give me a buzz to read over your emails and help you to get that email marketing engine flying along for you.

  • Aweber and ProFollow have always been strong for me. By "strong", I mean best in delivery. Hope that helps.
