I guess this would be the same as self publishing on Amazon. I'm giving it some serious thought - I did very well with an ebook on Twitter a while back, and I'd love to try some more business related books.

Has anyone here tried this route, and if so, were the results good?

It looks like it needs careful consideration of the Ts&Cs have you also looked at a similar service call myebook.com, that doesn't provide the publishing but helps to create great looking formats that you can use for distribution yourself

That's would be putting it quite mildly, for me. I'm not eligible to use it because I don't live in America, but if I did, I think their terms and conditions would put me off it pretty quickly.

I have not, but I will check it out, thanks. Yes, I agree that when signing up with ANY self-publishing service one needs to carefully consider the terms and conditions and read all the fine print.

This looks like the equivalent of Kindle for Barnes and Noble. Unfortunately it looks like only those with a US tax ID can use it. So that leaves me out. Kindle does allow international publishers.

I glanced at it the other day and have been meaning to go back through it, but a couple of the things that I didn't really care for were:

    * Tiered royalties based on price (65% up to 9.99, then only 40% from 10-199) - What that does, is kills that price range between 9.99 and $25. At 9.99 you'll make $6.49 in royalties, but at $20, you'd only make $8 (plus the sales would likely be lower). I haven't done the math to figure out if that works with my pricing strategy, but my gut says not really. Then again, it might offer an additional stream of revenue from people that wouldn't have found my ebooks anyway...

    * Not being able to opt-out of the ebook "lending" program.
    H. eBook Lending. Barnes & Noble shall have the right to institute a program whereby customers of any eBook Store can loan eBooks to others. A customer who has purchased an eBook may loan such eBook to one (1) lendee during a lending period. No more than one (1) copy of any one (1) eBook can be on loan from an eBook lendor at any given time. The lending period is for up to fourteen (14) days. By submitting your eBook for distribution using the Service you agree to allow your eBook to be distributed through Barnes & Noble's lending program pursuant to the terms listed in this Section IV.H. and as may be modified from time to time by Barnes & Noble, in its sole discretion.
    * Section B under paragraph IV in their ToS that states:
You may not include in any eBook advertisements or other content that is primarily intended to advertise or promote products or services.
    * No customer information sharing (i.e. no way to build your customer list)
Barnes & Noble doesn't share any information about our customers with vendors. We do provide reporting in the My Sales tab to let you know how many eBooks you have sold and when to expect your next payment
    * Net-60 payment terms (60 days after you sell, you get paid), but immediate withdraw from credit card if your refund balance goes more than $10 down. (I could see that causing some cashflow problems if you can't stick it out for 60 days).

I still may give it a go... but I'm going to read through all of the terms and conditions before I do.

I was thinking about the customer info - the way around that would be to include, throughout your ebook, various offers that would be good enough to entice the reader to give you their name and ebook. I would assume that you can include clickable links in these books - or can you? Another way to do it would be, on the author info page, to include a link to a page which is both an author info page and a sales page with a contact form on it.

According to their TOS they won't allow any kind of advertising within your ebook.

I would assume that includes links directing to an opt-in of sorts.

Interesting. That sure does limit what you could use this type of service for.

      Dana,

Thanks for starting this thread. I've recently submitted a book to Kindle and have been searching for other platforms. So far I've found lulu and now this one.

For those who are hindered by geographical limitations to T&C, I suggest finding a US partner.

I dont know about pub it or lulu yet, but from what I understand, the Kindle can't browse the web effectively for putting back links into it.
