A lesson from (or to) a 9 year old girl...

Here is the story. My 9-year old daughter, Andrea, wrote a short story for a contest about bedside stories. Writers need votes to be considered.

So, she asked all friends and relatives to vote for her. Coming from behind she was able to be number 3 in less than a day. That's the power of word of mouth. However, the other kids are relying on their own networks of family and friends and Andrea is currently in number 5.

Hence, I though...ok, I belong to this great community (the warrior's community, off course), that has probably the most knowledgeable online marketers in the planet. Can my fellow warriors vote for Andrea and spread the word?

Vote for Andrea at - "Lizzy is on her way" by Andrea to make Andrea happy.

Andrea is learning an important lesson in Internet marketing. Maybe we can tell a cool story about it to the community.

Thanks,

Gilbert

      Skid_Roe,

I want to make Andrea happy and show her my support. I think the first n kids (in votes) are considered for a prize. However, she is happy knowing that many people is voting for her, just to support her. And that makes me happy too.

Thanks for the vote, ... and Thank you Gina too.

I've read the four stories above it.

I don't believe children wrote them. Especially not "The Golden Rule" in position 3, which is clearly a political statement about gay marriage.

I think those four slots are being taken up by frustrated adult writers, who may or may not have had a child sitting nearby when they wrote them.

Since that offends me (the "not written by children" thing, not the "gay marriage" thing), I voted for Andrea.

I think it's important to let her know that at least one person here - a writer - didn't vote for her story because it was hers, but because it deserves the vote.

The rules of the contest do not state that the story must be written by a child. It just say's to create a child's bedtime story (and be of legal age to enter the contest).

I like how she called the lizard Lizzy, so I voted for it.

A 9 year old girl writting these? The website is full of adults trying to win $7500, WHY else would you be getting people to vote? I believe that is your story.

Unfortunate if you did win, you would need to find a year old kid to pick up the winnings.

    Regards

        Hi warriors,

From my perspective Andrea is a winner already. With all the positive posts here she got very excited last night when I showed her some of the comments.

Our goals as parents (Maria and i) is not about winning the prize. It's about showing that we care about her and we know she loves to write. As Maria stated earlier, she used to write stories in every piece of paper she could find. We buy reams of paper just for her. However, a few months ago, she decided to stop writing, not because she lost interest, which could happen, but because of peer pressure from her friends about what is cool and what is not.

With this contest she is seeing that the cool thing to do is what she really loves to do. Writing or anything else she may like in the future. As parents, our role is to motivate our kids to pursue their dreams.

So, this contest is providing us a way to stimulate her interest in writing. Winning the contest is just secondary. For Andrea winning is knowing people cares about her.

For my wife and I, we have reached our goals already. And we are very thankful to all of you.

Again, thanks everyone to your continuous support for Andrea.

Please don't forget that you can vote once per day per device and browser.
Currently, Andrea still in fifth position, very close to forth, but the sixth person is approaching dangerously.

I don't think we can reach any of the ones in the first three spots, but I hope we can keep Andrea between forth and fifth position.

      Cheers,
      A proud and happy dad.

No offense, but it may the wrong lesson.

I haven't read any of the stories, but my point would be the same regardless - should the BEST story win or the story that has somebody behind it with a lot of connections?

Hers may be the best. But if so, that's even worse. She'll know she won because of "marketing," not because of "merit."

    Very cute. I voted!

    Thanks,

    Gilbert

Trivum, the vote counts on for 40%. The story for the other 60%.

In principle I agree with you, the whole score should be based on the story. However, in real life, relationships matter and not only someone's capacity or skills.

Cute! I voted for her story. Though now I'm tempted to create one of my own for fun...

Speaking of which, what's up with bashing bedtime stories that were written by grownups? It might be a contest for writing a child's bedtime story, but the contest doesn't stipulate that you must BE a child in order to enter. In fact, not only is the sample story obviously written by an adult, the rules say: "The Contest is open only to legal residents ... who are at least the age of majority."

It's good everybody decided to help out by voting, but this thing goes beyond that. Here is a young girl doing what most adults don't seem to know or care about word-of-mouth-marketing.

I feel we all should just pick the lesson from the girl's very powerful marketing strategy and make effective use of t in our different ways.

I wish the girl well and pray she gets her wishes .
