Ideas needed for site...

I have a "fan" site for an online game that was earning some decent $$ from the referral commissions offered from the game itself. ( $50 a month low, $1500 month high )However, the company has since discontinued the program and Im actually afraid they may shut down completely in the near future.

The site is over a year old and has received about 5K uniques a month on average ( high as 9k, low as 3k )and has a pretty active forum. I havent built a list and wouldnt know what to market to them if I did since its aimed at kids. I do have some adsense and other ads but the income is very minimal from them.

Im just at a loss of how to best monetize the site now and what i can do if the game goes under. I would hate to lose out on all that traffic.

Any suggestions on what to do with the site if the game itself ceases to exist? Should I leave it as a reference to what was or try and redirect the traffic to a new site on something else or what?

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

I would attempt to find a game similar to the one on your fan site. Maybe you can start referring them to that? Or, start building your list on that site and marke something completely different to them all together. Other games, or products gamers would want. There's a lot of informational and digital products with high commissions that gamers would be interested in on CB.

How about becoming an affiliate for hardware such as controllers, joysticks and the like.

Why not try out a survey where one participant could win a brand new-release game, they can take the survey and then enter their name and email to see if they win? One way to entice visitors to sign up and build your list - have you thought about offering a free e-book with cheats for games in? It's free to obtain the information, and easy to package - sign up with mailchimp or getresponse for a free account - it won't cost you anything to try.

You could have monthly competitions - have you got a 'refer a friend' kind of thing - knowing the age-group of your visitors, possibly best getting a facebook friend finder or myspace kinda thing - that would increase traffic (in my opinion)

With regards to monetising it further, how about looking at a newsletter with reviews for upcoming games and interviews with people in the gaming leagues / games designers - it would help them out too I'll bet - it's at least an option.

Anyway, the games niche is not really my forte, but I hope I've given you some useful information.

    Cheers,

    Newbim.
