Waste of time for forum building, profile links?

I have been building links by hand to high PR forums for a while now and came across an article by josh spaulding that caught my eye, you can read it here (no affiliate or promotion).

In any case, it speaks about how most people are wasting their time and money paying for services in many cases if the profile link that was built on the forum doesn't show up for search engines when they are ready for indexing, due to not being logged into the forum at the time. This doesn't seem as good news for most people building profile links.

So, if this is the case, what should be doing for backlink building? Seems like another method gets somewhat discredited every day by an article e.t.c. Just would like to build backlinks that are reliable.

Have a look here. I don't know if this helps but a Google search of "warrior forum waste of time forum building" list this thread first.

Not the case. I have over 100 Indexed backlinks from this method and I never login. Consequently, the website which I am referring to is ranked #1 for my keyword. I would say this guy is wrong.

In a nutshell, if you have to login to see your profile the backlink doesn't do you much good since google would also have to login to see your profile as well.

Not really anything new and after reading through the guys blog it appears that he gives out a lot of bad advice that he later has to correct when he is called out for giving bad advice... my advice, delete that site from your bookmarks.

That is right, warrior forum is a special case, one of my posts was deleted 2 hours after posting it but I found it the next day on google.
That means google spider loves warrior forum so it can't be an example.

Christopher is right, some forums are "closed" communities, meaning you have to register + login to read the threads. You can check a forums by trying to read threads on the particular forum without logging in. If you cannot read a thread then chances are good that SE bots cannot index them either. They are blocked (through robot.txt file?).

However, I have - odd occasion - found threads in search results. But when I click through, I'm either immediately directed to a sign up page or only the OP appears. To see the rest you have to register/login. This is often true of Question and Answer sites.

Therefore, if your intention is to build SE friendly links via forums you'd be well advised to make sure it's an open forum. However, all is not lost with a "closed" forum as you still get exposure to co members through your sig. If your contribution is valued you'll get support.
