Understanding SEO Keyword Density -- How does keyword density impact the effectiveness of articles?

Hey Guys!

This thread is really for anyone who is relatively new to internet marketing and wants to understand how keyword density works and how it can impact the effectiveness of your articles.

You see, one of the main forms of generating traffic is through the use of articles.

Whether you submit them to directories, distribute them as content syndication to blogs, or just have them on your website they are a vital part of your "traffic generating" strategy.

But to get the maximum benefit out of your articles you need to understand a concept called Keyword Density.

This is a measure of how many times a keyword appears in the article.

The real trick to writing successful articles is to get the keyword density right.

If you have too few keywords in your article and the search engines won't be able to understand what your article is about.

And if you have too many keywords in your article the search engines will penalize you for spamming.

Before we look at what keyword density is, it's best that you understand how to calculate it.

Keyword density is always expressed as a percentage. To calculate it you take the number of times the keyword appears in the article, divide it by the total number of words and multiple it by one hundred.

For example, if your article is 100 words long and your keyword appears 5 times then the calculation is:

1. Number of times the keyword appears (5)
2. Divided by the total number of words (100) which equals 0.05.
3. This is then multipled by 100 to give the percentage, i.e. 5%.

You should aim for a keyword density between 2% and 5% in your articles.

So long as your density is within this range you will be fine. Don't aim for 5% all the time or 2%, just write naturally and don't overuse your keyword.

In fact, Microsoft Word has a function that counts the number of words in the article. By clicking the "find" and then replace" buttons for your keyword and replacing it with the same word it will give you the total number of words replaced, i.e. the number of keywords.

From there it's just simple math just as we did above and you'll have an accurate number for your keyword density.

So, to end this post let me remind you that the key when it comes to keyword density is to pay attention to it on all of your content that you put out on the internet.

By being aware and taking note of this very important figure, it will help you maximize the effectiveness of your articles and content.

I hope this may help a few here, as this confused me TREMENDOUSLY when I first began online - and it took me MONTHS (literally) to finally understand!!!

Hopefully you now understand how Keyword Density works and won't have to spend months trying to figure it out like i did.

Warmly,

Sonam

    Hey dude!

Well, Thanks for the article. But I would like to tell you another fact which is "Keywords are useless until you tag your articles properly" . If you have not tagged your articles search engines will not find them at all!!

Well, it is advisable not to count the words when you write, you must justify your content. Let the keyword density be 20% or 5% but the article must be justified!!

Normally, main keywords as you have mentioned should be more than 5% which is obvious and natural.

    Best Wishes:
