As described in this WSJ article: 'Scrapers' Dig Deep for Data on the Web - WSJ.com

Essentially there are companies out there who make it their business to infiltrate and scrape public and private forums, membership sites, blogs or other sites to gather personal and demographic data. Something to think about if you run a private membership site in certain niches.

Privacy? You don't have no stinkin' privacy online.

  I do have in my general TOS statement I use on many of my sites that automated scrapping isn't allowed. But, hey, that doesn't stop Google nor do I want it to.
  
  The really shady part is using tools to scape supposedly private sites or private areas of public sites for data and other information. For example, somebody buying a War Room membership here just to scrape the offers there and republish them somewhere else.
