What software do you use to record the screen and it can zoom in and out in a certain range of area in the screen?

I use Camtasia and really like that software. You can experiment with Camstudio which is a free software. I tried that before I bought Camtasia and it will work as a good starter program.

One of the things you want to consider is your ability to work with your legacy videos. In other words, the first few videos you make may look a little amatuerish once you've progressed and learned video a little better. If you have those projects saved in something like Camtasia you can go back and add/edit/refine them fairly easily so you don't have to recreate the videos from scratch.

It basically gets down to whether you see yourself producing videos over the long haul. If you think you'll outsource them in the future then a free program may be the way to go. If you think you will be creating videos on a regular basis then having a quality program may be in your best interest.

      Hi visimedia

I agree with Bill camstasia is great, I have used cam studio but its no where near as good as camstasia but it is free.

You might want to look at Jing as a halfway house same company as camstasia.

      I hope that helps

        Camtasia is the best.

Cam Studio is free, but I don't think it does the smart zoom like you want.

I used cam studio. It was working well with Xp but showed some problems when I started using Windows 7.

Go for cam studio screen recorder if you have XP OS.

I use Camstudio for the basic recording and then edit it in Sony Vegas. Whilst Camstudio doesn't give you the zoom function, I do this using Ctrl and the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in or out. You can either pause Camstudio while you're doing this, or do it live and edit it out in the post-production editing.

I recommend DemoCreator besides Camtasia, which covers basic video editing features including zoom-n-pan, cheaper and for beginners.
