    Don't take it personally.

Focus on serving the people who remain ON your list instead
of giving too much attention to the people who unsubscribe.

Just be who you are and you'll build trust and loyalty with
    people who like your approach.

If the subscriber genuinely found you annoying then they'd
be unlikely to buy from you anyways.

Effective marketing relies as much on repelling some people
as it does in attracting others.

You can't please all the people all the time.

    Dedicated to your success,

As they say... you can't please all of the people all of the time.

The trick is not to dwell on the people who say, "No thanks..." but to focus on the ones who want to hear, and say "Yes please".

It's tricky, but you gotta do it

It will NEVER be enough, meaning you can't please everyone. Once it becomes "enough" for one person, it will be "too much" for someone else. You fix one person's complaint, and you'll create a new reason for someone else to complain.

I once had two unsubscribes come in on the same day on the same message. Funny thing is, their complaint was exacty the opposite. One person said I emailed too much. The other person said I was supposed to be their teacher, but I didn't act like it because I didn't email them often enough.

Point is, pay attention to your Goldilocks. These are the people who think that everything you do is just right. (And read the criticisms, but only take it on board if it is constructive.)

    cheers,

It might be nothing to do with you. Maybe
the subscriber has become preoccupied with
    some domestic concern.

Was this from a buyer's list?

Did you check if they were reading your posts?

Lot's of e-mail never gets read, even if it's
    delivered.

Was your last post related to the list's
    core topic?

Inevitably as your list grows some people
will also want to opt out.

Focus on providing value to the ones who
want to buy or want to stay.

You could send out an email saying "If you reply to this email I will send you $1000 directly to your paypal account." and you would still get unsubscribes.

A large portion of the time people unsubscribe without even reading the email they are on when they click the unsubscribe link. Some people move on to other things and just go on unsubscribe sprees every once in a while, others lose interest and just blindly unsubscribe and make up random reasons, and some no matter what you do you just can't please them.

Don't sweat the ones who don't want to stay on your list but focus your energy on the ones who do stay with you.

I've setup Aweber to NOT send me people's reasons for unsubscribing. I have never been able to use those reasons to help me approve, anyway, because either they're like "I've got a new mail address", or "sorry, I don't have time anymore", or "this is useless" or something like that.

So, I look at the feedback I get from my subscribers instead. Much more valuable

    Hey man

Seriously don't sweat it. It's been posted in this thread already that you can't please all of the people etc etc and someone who unsubscribed is unlikely to turn into a customer or client.

(So you know, I had to move my list from SBI to Aweber. Prior to the move I had 3400 people. Apparently 2000 people couldn't be bothered to click the 'Confirm Your Subscription' link that Awebber sends. So I lost 2000 people overnight...and you know what, I spent about 5 minutes swearing and cursing. And then I realized - if they can't even click a link to confirm they want to stay on the list - AND get a new set of goodies for doing so - then they would never purchase anything or contribute anything worthwhile to the list. Happy to see them go.....)

I started list building and got 97 subscribers and when I sent out my first broadcast 5 unsubscribed. I figured either what I had to offer just wasn't for them or they forgot all about me and realized they only joined for the freebie.

In both cases I don't think we'd do each other any good, so why should I be hurt. They were honest enough to get off my list so I wouldn't waste my time or theirs. Plus if they're not interested it leaves room for those that are...which are the ones I want to read my emails.

SO even though I totally understand how ya feel, I have to ensure you that they did indeed do you a favor and its not because of you as a person, its because of them in response to what you had to offer. And they wanted to be polite and remove themselves so YOU wouldn't waste time and effort on them.

Did that make you feel any better?? :-)

Don't take it personally, there are always going to be people that unsubscribe. It doesn't matter how much value your content has. I unsubscribe from lists all the time, just for the mere fact that I don't have time to read ALL of my emails. Keep your head up, and keep pushing forward.

Here's the deal... To have a rabid following, you have to have a real strong personality in your marketing and make a stand on something. You WANT to polarize your reading audience. You WANT to have lots of unsubscribes. You WANT to get hate mail emails...

If you don't have haters, then you arent making a strong enough impression.

Because for everyone who HATES you, if you do it right, you will have one who LOVES you... not just likes a little bit, but LOVES you bigtime and will buy everything you sell. Perfect example here is Steve Wagenheim, he is very opinionated and makes strong posts. Some people dont like him. Some people love him. He obviously makes a good bit of money from the people who love him at this forum as he is now selling Niche pack number 19,000 or something...

The point is, if your list is quiet... Thats when you need to worry.

And second point, is take time and think about who you want to be to your list, and make that character bigger than life.

Yeah but annoying from what perspective?

      Frequency of sending his emails?

The actual content in the emails?

The fact that maybe his unsubscribe link is a bagillion lines down? j/k.

There are so many potential reasons why some one would be annoyed.

Like I said before, ignore it because negative feedback without any feedback is well, just negative! lol

Every once in awhile I e-mail the ones who say my newsletter or e-mail was "annoying" or they were "annoyed" just to ask them what specifically annoyed them. Sometimes I get good, constructive feedback, and sometimes I don't. In any event, you cannot please everyone. Though like a previous poster wrote, if you do things right for everyone one person that hates you there will be one that loves you - probably even two or three........

While we are on the subject, I received an email from a subscriber a few minutes ago, and here's what it said...

"Don't send me email that I don't want ever again"

Keep in mind this is a double opt-in subscriber through Aweber who has been on my list for almost 5 months. But now all of the sudden he doesn't want my emails and instead of clicking the unsubscribe link he sent me that. Oh well, it happens.

You can't take things like this personally. I've actually unsubscribed from lists simply because I wanted to reduce my email and was no longer interested in a list ... but felt bad because I was hoping they wouldn't take it personally.

If that's the worst thing ever said about your e-mails, congratulate yourself. I've gotten much worse, including accusations of spamming from individuals who obviously don't remember that they double-opted in to my list. It hurts at first, but after a while you just have to laugh. Not that we shouldn't do a double-check each time to make sure they don't have a point, but for the most part, just roll your eyes and move on to people who have a clue.

Whenever I get an email using the fake commission subject line I'm very likely to unsubscribe. I'll usually put "deceptive" or I may have even used "annoying" before if there's an option to leave a message.

My guess is people get the most "annoyed" when there's a big disconnect between the subject line and what the email is about.

Just a guess from how I feel when going through email, not saying that happened here.

So-called IM "gurus" resorting to insipid trickery in e-mail subject lines to increase their open rate so that they can push their latest crap on the unsuspecting stinks of desperation.

Here's a golden IM tip for the "gurus" who use such tactics: provide useful and interesting content in your e-mails and lay off the constant sales badgering and product pushing and your open rate will increase -- all without resorting to tricks. Write that down, gurus.

Subject lines don't compel me to open an e-mail... the "From" field does.

Take it on the chin and move on. Try to distance your emotions from your list. For every 1 who unsubscribes think of the many who value your knowledge.

    Best regards

I try to provide as much value as I can.

    Apparently it is not enough...(sigh)

Man, I'm pretty sure I could offer a million dollars to the first ten of my subscribers that called me- and I bet I would get 6 calls. Lol. Damn apathy.

That would be very sad...and I think it would kinda make me wonder...who's really reading my emails (or at least taking them seriously).

Oh and if you ever do offer a million dollars to the first ten subscribers to call ya, let me know, I'll give you a ring

Trust me! They are doing YOU a favor! If they didn't unsubscribe, you would've probably had issues with them anyway.. Let them weed themselves out while you focus on providing value to those who matter..

Also remember that this is a numbers game, there will always be a number of people not only optin out, but asking for refunds as well.. Its just how the game works..

I used to provide a completely free site with some completely free information for people ... and I had one guy write a huuuuuge long letter to me shouting madly at me that he'd wasted hours of his life because Associated Content was only available to people in the US.
