How to read search trends?

So, I have a blog that I love to write on, but not sure if the niche is viable from a money making stand point.

I used SEO books free keyword tool and it said my main key word gets an estimated 5,000 google hits daily. Is that too small to monetize?

I tried typing in "cars" and "news" for a comparison and those came up with 125,000 daily hits.

How many daily google searches makes a niche good for monetization?

Thanks all!

It's hard to give a general answer for something like this. Certain niches may be hard to monetize with tons of traffic while others can be easy with very little traffic.

You also want to look at whether your main keyword is an exact search or not. Just as an example, a keyword phrase like car news can have much more traffic than an exact search phrase of "car news". Just because you rank for the exact search phrase doesn't always mean you will be ranking for all of the searches that fall under the broad term.

If there are products and advertisers for your niche, then there is likely traffic out there that can monetize a site for that niche. If you can't find a single relational ad (on google, clickbank, CJ.com, etc.. ) for a keyword phrase, then the answer will likely be no.

Without specific details, it would be hard to give you a more educated answer though.
