Cool, just saw a pop up ad when I logged in.

Looks like Allen may be giving us one more way to make money...

Not cool but hey it ain't my forum.

PS: Well its not so bad as it does not keep popping up every time I load a new page. Now that would be ultra annoying!

    HMMMM!!!

    Here we go...

    1) Allen is a marketer and has an audience here, therefore, he would be STUPID not to market here

    2) I doubt you're going to be bombarded with ads

    3) The product is probably being recommended because it solves a need for a lot of people.

    4) Marketers who don't like being marketed to, who'd have thunk it!

Admin is already laughing... I'm sure he's already made sales AND he's sitting back with a cigar grinning from ear to ear as this thread grows.

There have been ads here off and on for a long time folks... right up there at the top where it says the forum is going back to paid status... that changes/gets added to ONCE in a while.

I knew a post about the pop up would be made almost instantly :-)

Even though I warned everyone I would be testing pop ups soon. Does anyone remember that?

Also, I'm promoting a Warrior member, I could see someone possibly getting upset if it was a credit card company but come on, it's a Warrior member here.

One thing I would like to see is if anyone here could come close to guessing what I am constantly being offered to advertise here by companies that are not Warrior members. I know there are a lot of members here who deal with ads and cost of ads every day so I think maybe someone can come close. Do you have any idea how much money I actually allow to slip through my fingers simply because I refuse to advertise anything other than a Warrior member?

Your point is well taken, I just kind of got used to the ad free zone that I have become used to when visiting the forums.

You have placed all the ads "WSO and Services" in their own respective places on the forum so that when I wanted to be marketed to I could choose to see what marketing offers are there.

But as I said in my PS. Its not such a "BIG" deal to me as long as it does not pop up each time I reload a page or navigate to another section of the forums.

How much money do you let slip out of your hands? I'd say at least a 250k a year or more.

I'd say you were right with your last two words if I were to guess, you'd be closer if you'd said per month. I'd like to say PER WEEK... But, I'm not involved with buying and selling ads so I couldn't tell for sure.

I don't mind the pop-up. It looks interesting enough to try it on my own forum.

As for declining advertisers, I would argue that INCREASES your long term revenue and is simply just smart business. Imagine if Google had let adwords run like wild turkeys when it started. They would have seen short term gains but only to lose out on building a consistently lucrative revenue model.

Still, I refuse to ask you the "how much" question, cause I will probably be sick with jealously.

Sorry, Allen, I have a sinking feeling that all too many people here don't care. How unfortunate.

There are those of us who see it for what it is, and others who are going to wet their diapers because you have the gall to the EXACT same they're doing.

I wasn't expecting to see a pop-up, but I'm glad the 'X' worked, as opposed to just taking me to a different site. I also noticed it was for a fellow Warrior's product and my first thought was...

      Any guesses?

      Anybody?

      OK, I'll tell you.

My very first thought was "Hey! I wonder how I can get my product shown on the new pop-up."

Anyway, a big thumb's up from me, Allen!

That was the exact same thought that went through my mind when I saw that. I don't sell in the MMO niche, but I do allow myself to have fantasies.

Besides, on most of my websites the whole damn thing is an ad...

    • Lol.

I wish you had picked a different product to do your very first test with I currently have a Wordpress product being developed with some similar functionality, although the two products are still quite different. I suppose this is good to prime the market

Anyways, nice ad. Simple, yet effective. Was that from 99designs.com?

As a guess... really depends on which companies and what kind of ads/positioned where... but I'd guess maybe $35k-$50k/day if it is a straight ad/given prominent exposure plus allowed lead generation? Anywhere close?

Allen, I for one think completely understand that you are letting money pass through your hands in order to be *selective* about what you advertise.

If as Michael Oksa suggests (hi Michael) that some people won't care, then perhaps this will thin the herd a bit and get those that truly "get it" to stick around and those that (as your post a couple days ago suggested) only post crap vs info on making money to go the he** away.

      Doesn't bother me one bit.

Folks, YOU are marketers (or hope to be)...

Why the hell would you not expect to see an occasional ad here? Especially on that is targeted.

Yes, there are paid portions of this forum. Any guesses as to how much Allen pays for freaking bandwidth every month?

He could be advertising every single time you click. Think about the value you've gotten here... the money you've made from WSO's/Classifieds.

Now shut up and get back to work.

    Unreal,

The negative comments remind me of the people who buy a product and then slam it rather than studying and learning from the sales page that made them buy in the first place.

Nothing happens, and I mean NOTHING happens until a sale is made. No economy, no spendable income, no discretionary income, no jobs, no businesses, no buildings, no nothing until a sale is made.

When the marketing/advertising is on this forum we should STUDY the process of marketing even if we don't buy the product.

lol. Does any of you folks remember this thread:

        http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...9-lol-hmm.html

I can just see Allen sitting back with his favorite beverage, thinking "what would be the fastest way to get half of the forum population into death sentence? Oh wait, let's use a pop up -- that's bound to make another off topic thread show up within seconds"...

Of course, I don't know how Allen looks like, so that vision of mine is somewhat blurry...

        Cheers,

        Regine

PS: To the folks who complained. Try to change your point of view: Allen is a savvy marketer, and there are definitely some lessons to be learned from that ad. If you take the time to study it, who knows, you might actually get a free lesson from Allen...

Well, one can be in IM without liking popup ads. Popup ads just rub me the wrong way as being too intrusive (usually).

Note: not saying the initial onetime (until you close it :-)) popup is annoying or anything, because it isn't.

I saw the pop-up as well.

    I clicked on it.

The offer being made wasn't relevant to me.

    I closed the sales page.

    I moved on.

30 seconds of my life gone - BIG DEAL!!!

It's Allen's place and we're all guests here. If he thinks a fellow member has something that could be of use to the rest of us, he would be a bad host to not make us aware of it. That holds true whether he makes any money from the offer or not.

No-one is forced to buy the offer, nor are they forced to click the ad.

As I said earlier, I've moved on.

Everyone else should do likewise (unless they actually want to buy the offer of course).

I don't get why some complain about a small pop up that is slightly bigger than the corner war room ad was. It was basically the same size, just a different shape and color.

It's a marketing forum and this is witnessing one of the best monetizing a site in a way any of us can copy. Has my interest.

I see something like that being used here, and the thought going through my mind is...."This is new...Where can I buy this? If Allen is using this, I should be trying it on my sites".

hehe! Glad people are talking about the pop up more exposure to it!

I designed the pop up and wrote the script for it (as well as the banner graphic). Instead of complaining about a pop up you should be thinking -- is there an opportunity here for me to possible get one of those things in the future for one of my products?

You know what the secret is? Have an a+ reputation on this forum from years of hard work. Having a solid product. Being active on this forum. Etc.

With that said, the goal was to make the popup as unobtrusive as possible. It's tiny. it's in the bottom right corner. shows up ONCE per session (hint: to never see again just don't ever log out and use the same browser!). So close it and be done with it!

AGAIN - I'd think opportunity... "how could I use these things in MY business?"

Jason, I'd like to commend you for taking the initiative and having the guts to convince Allen to do something that many others here would have previously deemed taboo!!

You have definitely approached this from the right perspective - this is a product that is targeted and is USEFUL to many of the people here, and you've tried to make it unobtrusive and low-key to where it does not annoy at all. To tell you the truth, I missed this pop-up the first time it showed up here earlier today, and someone else had to point it out to me before I actually noticed it! If unobtrusiveness was your goal, you have certainly achieved it.

So many people here claim to be "marketers", yet they intensely dislike (I think it goes beyond that and actually crosses over into hate) being sold to. Instead of complaining and whining, they should instead learn from the marketing efforts of others and try to adapt it to their own business model. As long as you're providing something of value, you have every right to market it any way you want as long as it does not cross over into dishonesty or unethical practices, but anything and everything else is fair game!

          Bingo. This.

LOL this was definitely an enjoyable read as with most thread on this forum. I actually haven't really taken much notice or bother with the pop up. Now I'm thinking I should intentionally sign out just to view the pop up once more.

I was annoyed that I could not see the picture on the pop up, I kept logging in and out trying to see if a different browser would help. I finally got in, it seems like a great product my only concern is' is it 100% legal ... I know it must be, because Suzanne is using it, Allen is promoting it, these are people who I never question their Integrity I basically just don't think I understand exactly how it works.

I have always marveled how little advertising Allen does on here, and it never seems to be his own stuff...

It doesn't allow you to clone other people's sites ... only sites you have ftp access to so of course, it is legal. It's a real time saver for people who want to build a lot of sites quickly. I believe the developer also created Amazon S3 product that I also own that is just outstanding.

People here love to join in and cry scam when they purchase something that they don't get much value from ... something being offered here of real value and there's still a lot of bitchin going on. Go figure.

Thank you Suzanne, that makes so much sense now infact I can see value in it even for someone like me.

I did not properly understand the concept.

Some will always complain, either because they are jealous, self-righteous or psychotic. When Allen makes a deal with Bill Gates, Mozilla, Apple & Google to have every browser use the WF as the home page and make it un-changeable. (And make leaving it impossible until you have viewed 10 pages)... When he buys the internet and charges 10 cents an email, when every TV station only carries 'The Warrior Forum Show'.. When O'Hara Airport is changed to 'Says Field'... When Tiger stadium becomes Allen's Bowl... and when it becomes 'The Allen Says Ocean' instead of 'The Pacific'... (You'll be glad you're a War Room Member. )
