question for domain flippers

Hi,

I am wondering how to do a valuation of a domain name. It is already registered, but the owner is just parking it - it has no traffic. It's in a niche that could be monetized. I contacted him and he said "Make me a generous offer." How do I do a valuation?

Thanks!

You dont......really to be frank its what YOU are worth paying for it. I sell domains and have a price set in mind that based on other sales for similar domains its a fair price. Take in mind your own budget and go from there...Although if the domain brings in traffic the seller will use that as levearage for his asking price...a parked domain can still have massive traffic

I like the way he included "generous" in there. Make him an offer. He will say yes or not or counter offer.

Well I offered $100, and he replied "I wouldn't consider less than $800." I suppose from his point of view, it only costs him $12 a year to keep it hope for a higher offer.

Domain Selling is also an art and they ask more money coz of keyword rich domain. There are so many parameters considered within to valuate a domain.
Now e.g sex.com was sold for USD 13,000,000. Imagine!

Well, you got your answer. That's the best way to get a figure from domain sellers is to make an offer and see where they go from there.

Okay. He's had the domain for 8 years and has never done anything with it. It seems ridiculous to ask for $800 but he's going to be stubborn, I just have to find another domain name.

        Yes, move on.

I once offered a guy $1,000 US for a domain and I would meet him at his office with a certified check in hand the next day.

He was squatting on the domain, had pictures of the house he was building on it.

        He flat refused.

Two years later, I bought it for $9.

If you go to Estibot, as suggested above, for an apparaisal you need to realize that you need more than a grain of salt. The "true value" of the domain will usually be between 20% - 50% of that given by Estibot. Of course, the negotiated price will depend on the needs and wants of both the seller and the buyer

    Cheers,

PLEASE dont take estibot for TRUTH!!! Really there is no one who can give you what a domain is worth BUT YOU! So he ask for $800....counter with $500...If the domain will INCREASE your business and yo ucan make that money back BUY IT!!! Business owners seem to be cheapos to aspects to their business.
