I've Got One Week Off Work - Here's the plan....

I've got one week off work starting in the first week of November.

I'm not going away anywhere on holiday as it's so close to Christmas. My daughter will be at school & my wife's at collage so I've got most of the week to myself.

I plan to use this week to do as much work on my IM as possible.

Only a couple of months ago, after months of learning & trying different things I decided to start my IM business as an Amazon associate. So far I've got two sites up promoting Amazon products.

The fist site was built as a learning experience but the second site I built I put a lot of work into & I hope to make some sales through it. Currently this site is sitting on page 2 of Google & I'm adding content & back links to help push the site to the first page of Google.

Anyway, as I've decided my first IM income stream is going to be from Amazon, I've set myself a gaol.

To be making £1000 per month by the end of next year.

Once I reach this target I'll maintain it & move onto creating another income stream ( I'm thinking list building & product creation ).

So this is my plan for my week off...

To build 4 Amazon review sites.

From now until my week off work I'll be doing keyword, product & competition research so I'm starting the week with all the keywords & products I'll be promoting.

MONDAY

Domain name & site setup

Register 4 domain names with exact match keyword ( or as close to exact match )
Set name servers & add new domains to hosting account.
Install WP on the new domains
Install WP theme – Flexibility theme 3
Customize theme colours & layout.
Create custom headers & upload to theme.

TUESDAY

Build site content & set up pugins

Pick 2 of the sites.

Install plugins
  • All in one SEO pack
  • Contact form 7
  • Easy privacy policy
  • Tell a friend
  • WP-sticky
  • Review star rating
Write unique, keyword rich content for home page.
Add images & video to home page.
Select products from Amazon & create product price & review page.
Add the products to product price & review page.

When both sites are complete – Submit URL to Google, Bing, Yahoo to be crawled

WEDNESDAY

Same as Tuesday

THURSDAY

Promotion

Bookmark all sites & pick 2 sites to promote

Create 2 Squidoo lenses with back links
Create 2 hub pages with back links
Create 2 youtube videos with back links
Create 2 articles with back links ( out source if needed )
Submit articles to ezine articles. Once accepted submit to 5 other top article directories.
Manually build profile & blog commenting back links.

FRIDAY

Promotion.

Same as Thursday

Create 2 Squidoo lenses with back links
Create 2 hub pages with back links
Create 2 youtube videos with back links
Create 2 articles with back links ( out source if needed )
Submit articles to ezine articles. Once accepted submit to 5 other top article directories.
Manually build profile & blog commenting back links.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY

Affiliate links & tweak

Add Amazon affiliate links to all sites & tweak sites.

Take a deep breath & relax

Bear in mind I'm a newbie so to speak & I've not yet made any money online.

I'm taking the "take action" advice you hear alot - hopfully I don't screw up & it pays off over time.

Good plan. Go and buy Jaso Fladlien's Wptwin before the price goes up. This will enable you to clone your existing site with settings and plugins.

You can then use that clone on all your new sites by just changing the content. This will save you some serious time and you'll get more done.

      Good luck.

This sounds really boring. Maybe I don't want to be in IM if this is typical.

UNLESS the topic is interesting. But I see no mention of that, and even if you had some interesting topics, then it sounds like the key is to diversify since apparently each site can only be expected to bring in a fraction of your goal's income.

BUT even if the topic was interesting, the way these sites seem to be slapped together, is anyone getting any value out of them? Before you say, "If someone buys a product off my site, then they're de facto happy I was promoting it." I just gotta wonder if they might have just as well bought it off the next-in-line site you clawed ahead of in the search rankings.

Sorry to be so cynical here, but whatever happened to the part of the entrepreneurial spirit that involved pursuing a passion?

I have entrepreneurial spirit & passion.

I'm "passionate" about building a successful internet marketing business. The passion doesn't come from the topic of the website but by creating websites that generate sales.

My gaol is to build an online income through more than one stream. I'm creating my first one with Amazon.

All the hard work is done in the setup of the sites, yes it's hard work & yes some if it's boring but once it's set up you can relax a little & just outsource some back linking to maintain ranking.

There are people on this forum who are making thousands of dollars every month from Amazon. In fact there are people in this thread who are doing that.

Logging into your Amazon associates account & seeing sales you've created make up for the boring parts.

If you do not understand what back links are, you have some research to do, search for "what is a backlink" in google to start or search the warrior forum.

Maybe his passion is money and setting himself up with an eventual automated income. I have a great job, but my passion is poker and music, in order to do those things I need more time, in order to get more time i need to quit my job, in order to do that, I need to set myself up with a sustainable online income, so passion can take many twists.

Have a look at Squidoo.com & look at some of the pages people create to get an idea of what it's about.

It's a great place to build a page with rich content & a place where you can place anchor text back links to your site.

    Go, Barry, Go!

Well thought out, you've got a plan to follow, and the uninterrupted time will make it easier to focus. Do it, do it, do it!

Jan gave you great advice. Copying a site set-up saves time over setting a new one up each time.

    Good luck!

      Barry,

Very good luck to you. If you asked my opinion I would say that your precious time would be better spent building backlinks to your most profitable site rather than creating new sites. I doesn't matter how many excellent sites you've got if no-one ever visits them.

When you've got one or two sites producing revenue that is the time to expand your empire.

Anyway - hope you have a very productive week!

Great plan and by writing it all down like that will ensure you stay focused and just do the tasks set out for yourself that day - well done. I personally found that I get better results from ebay (EPN) than amazon, so will be interested to see how you get on.

It's not as hard as it looks.

But your ideas sound better... maybe you could teach me when I move on from Amazon?

I supose with all this work I'm doing, when I move onto something else it will feel easy.

It's all about planning and taking action. Honestly, I've learned that detailed and extensive planning yield the best results. Go into it with no solid objective in mind and expecting to make thousands is the wrong mindset, hence why so many people fail at online marketing.

Let us know your results in the next month or two. It'd be interesting to hear how this works out for you.

Well I take my hat off to you - you have a week off work and instead of sitting on your butt or just doing what you please you have set out a weeks worth of solid work for yourself.

I am sure it wiill bring you results but even if the results are not what you hoped you will have learned from what you have done, and that is so very important.

Hope you have a cracking week.

    Hey Barry!

    I salute you...and I thank you.

The bottom line is this: while most people talk about doing something, building a blog, website, hub page, squidoo lens....That's all they are doing is talking about it...

    You are doing it!

If you really want to be successful, you need to to do something. Not just talk about doing something.....

You need to have passion and then take action....

Barry, you have also used a very powerful technique...you wrote down exactly what you are going to do... That kind of locks you in to your plan... Once you put it in writing there is no getting out of it...

Now you just need to complete the steps... Great post. Thanks for sharing!

This is pretty well thought out as far as I can tell. The only Amazon sales I made as an associate (they still have the fourteen dollars they owe me, lol) is when I created a lens with good content on it. I haven't forgotten about Amazon, but they're just not what I'm going for at the moment - but you sound like you've got a solid series of steps to work with.

    Good luck!

I've seen one other person mention this tip in the thread...I would only work on promoting two sites instead of four. Unless you are building a few sites on targeted keywords that have almost no competition, it might take a little while (possibly months) to get your sites to rank on the first page of Google for your keywords.

Take it from someone who has done this before. I have had a lot more success when I focus on one or two websites at a time because all my time and attention is devoted to those two sites. Most web 2.0 sites allow you to link to at least two self serving sites, and that is why I recommend promoting two sites at a time. I tried to promote four sites in a couple months and most of them failed miserably. I was trying to do too much too fast.

Again, there are times when you can get a non-competitive keyword site to rank on the first page right away, but usually it takes a little effort to get there. It depends on the amount of competition you have for your targeted keywords.

I think the rest of the plan is great. If you only have a week, you won't have time to do much else.

If you do have time, I would also submit RSS feeds for all of your sites too. This will help you build more backlinks to your sites faster.
