What happened to all these domain names?

I was trying to find available domain names.

Almost everything under the sun.. is registered as a domain.. Gasp!

I just wonder why do these domain owners never build a site on it? I mean how do they benefit from just owning a domain? And i am not just talking about .com's but also other TLDs

any insights?

If they don't build a site with it then they simply plan to sell it someday.

Or they make the registration first and then looked for the potential of the theme...

Well.. i don't really think that domains can sell so easily.. most of these sites have no content.. and just parked pages.

You were searching for them weren't you?
        To buy them?

So there's a buyer out there...

By extension, there are many buyers, like YOU that was searching for it, out there.

If the domains are available, I doubt if you would appreciate their value.

Scarcity or even non-availability is a part of business, marketing, buying and selling, demand and supply. You can't change it. I can't change it. No body can change it.:p

Guess again .... These domains were bought as investment and it's an investment that paid off:

I just sold 7 domains at a very nice profit. My sole purpose in registering them was because it is a hot niche and no one else had gotten them yet. I knew they would sell and they did, all to the same buyer.

It's like collecting sports cards or any other collectible or like buying real estate to sell later. Good domains are a valuable asset, and they don't need a website on them to be valuable.

A good domain is a valuable asset. When someone spots a good domain that is available to register, they do the smart thing and register it, so they can use it for a project down the line or sell it.

It's like real estate investing. You find a property that someone didn't pay taxes on so you pick it up dirt cheap. You can then either build on it, or sell it for regular market value.
