This is personal, and I really wasn't going to share this(pride).

I've been trying to profit online now for about 3 years- without seeing ANY profit.

Obviously something is wrong.

I know so much- but I just haven't been able to put it all together in a coherent way.

I've tried different avenues- failing miserably. I'm not afraid to fail- in fact, I'm a big believer in it. I believe you fail your way to success.

I'm not bitching- I just really want some help.

I'm a born entrepreneur- a born sales person that believes in providing value to people.

I'm just so overwhelmed with knowledge, ideas and aspirations that I've lost sight of what will make money in the long run- and what won't.

I've done some PPC(generating a small list- 200+), I've done SEO. I've looked into site flipping, and honestly- everything you can imagine. I've taken action numerous times- but have fallen flat on my face because I just don't know how to "close the deal" or finish a project in a way that will get me some profit. And I also know a little bit about a lot of stuff- instead of knowing a lot about one thing.

I feel like all I need is ONE system that works- and I would be able to scale it up and duplicate it to a crazy extent.

I'm not looking to get rich tomorrow- but I AM looking to gain wealth over the next couple of years. I'm not afraid to work- but I have to have some idea of my outcome. Without a clear outcome in mind- nothing ever seems to work. I know that's talked about a lot in books like "Think And Grow Rich" and others- but I just haven't been able to put the puzzle pieces together...

I really don't know where to go from here. I don't want to be in this place next month, next year, or even next week.

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired- and I'm ready to move on.

I completely own up to all my failures- and I accept full responsibility for my actions. I'm not the type to start crying about how life isn't fair and that making money online is too hard- blah blah blah.

I guess I just want a mentor.

Don't get me wrong, I've met some very helpful people on here that are downright awesome- but tips and tricks here and there aren't going to cut it for me.

I need someone to help me develop a business strategy that I can start working on NOW. But I don't need it from another struggling entrepreneur. I need it from someone that has made it, and has a similar mindset as me.

Feel free to leave some feedback.

Thanks,
-Ryan Leonard

Not really man, it's only a few weeks (maybe 1 month) old. I don't even know what my main gig is anymore.. I guess it is what I've been focusing on a little bit-

Sorry I can't be more clear. It was just going to be my central hub for that particular niche. I'd say what I've always considered would be my "main gig" would be the dating niche- that's what I've put the most research and work into- and I like it a lot.

I just haven't had time to go out and practice what I preach recently lol. And I guess that makes me feel illegitimate.

    Hi Ryan

I think you've answered your own question: "I feel like all I need is ONE system that works - and I would be able to scale it up and duplicate it to a crazy extent."

This is why you're not seeing results, because you're jumping around a lot. But, actually, lots of us have been down that road (me included).

I've recently had to ask myself some serious questions too.

And what I've learned is: You need to go with your strengths - do something that you enjoy and that feels absolutely natural to you.

Right now, you're probably getting into things that play to certain weaknesses you have. While you say you're a strong sales closer, you're weak at closing when it comes to online projects. Maybe you're focused to much on selling and not relationship building.

As long as you believe this is a strength for you, you may keep knocking into that same brick wall.

You've already owned and acknowledged your failures. That's the first step.
Now, you've got to own and acknowledge your STRENGTHS.

Figure out exactly what things you're very good at doing in the online world, then devote your time and energy to developing and mastering those particular skills.

If you do this, I think you'll start seeing better results from your efforts.

    Good luck

I was just gonna say this same thing. Don't jump on the "next big thing". Take one method and stick with it. And stick with it for at least 4-6 months. If you don't see any results after 4-6 months THEN you can move on to something else.

Could not agree more with Donna's post.

You have to just stick to one thing and follow that.

Whether its just article marketing, blogging, video marketing or another way. You have to focus on one thing 100% and give it your all. After you start seeing some results, and you will, they branch out with another way or method to try to get traffic and sales but at the same time still keeping up with your original plan/system.

  • Well, I haven't seen your websites for your other offers, Man, but I would say the one in your sig needs some serious changes if you want it to convert. I hope you don't mind me saying so, and that's not really the topic of this thread, so if you want a couple suggestions there, pm me.

Also, have you read this thread here? http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...al-estate.html Personally, if I didn't have my hands full already, this is the business model I'd be putting into action right now. That's a solid money maker right there, and the guy has practically laid out his entire business strategy if you follow the thread all the way through.

It does sound to me like you're jumping around quite a bit. Maybe the real problem is that you're not failing hard enough. You should try to stick with just one thing and give it all your energy until you've convinced yourself it's a no go.

I'm curious--are any of your projects making any money at all, or have you yet to see a $$ for your efforts?

EDIT: Ah, I re-read the original post and it looks like that's a negative. That does make it a bit harder because you've got nothing to duplicate. I'd seriously consider the business model I mentioned above. Whatever you decide to shoot for, just pick one thing and take it all the way.

Ryan, I read your post and had to remind myself, "Hey self, I've heard this all before so many times it's almost funny. Case in point...

So you THINK you need a mentor?

    I beg to differ!

In the video, one of the excuses Warhawk Matt Scott mentioned was, "I need a better coach.."

What happens if you get a mentor and that doesn't work out? Are you going to throw in the towel? Or, will you find yet another excuse?

    The thing about true winners is this;

    They have NO excuses!

They present NO explanations why not!

    They just do it!

And, they just get it done!

I've had people ask me to help them build a IM business and after agreeing to do so I had to eventually cut them loose. Why? They talked the right talk but when the truth came shining through like a beacon of light on a dark road, they were left standing there like a deer in headlights.

Their initial story about wanting to succeed at IM proved to be a farce. The reality is, IM is a business and just like any business it takes:
    • Perseverance
    • Vision
    • A considerable investment of time to get it going
    • Planning
    • Research
    • More time
    • Learning curve bumps and bruises
    • Ingenuity
    • An investment of funds
    • Salesmanship
    • More time
    • The canny ability to find a way when there is no way
    • All of your talents and abilities plus ones you don't have; and
    • The unwavering ability to believe you are going to make it come hell or high water
Honestly, if a person is dead broke, there is enough information on the WF forum to help them build a lucrative enough business to grab the tools they need to take their vision to the next level. There is an old adage, "Where there is a will; there is A WAY!"

If you are serious about succeeding at IM, you will find a way to get it done, mentor or not. That's what winners do!

But right now, I guess I'm just trying to figure out what direction to take. I have all the talent and ability- I'm just lacking a gameplan, and I'm NOT looking for anyone to give me one.

I just though I should seek some advice here.

I believe Zabrina succinctly laid out step #1 and step #2!

Zabrina is right, Paul's manual has some gems that will assist you in getting on track in short order. Next, you've already proven that you have what it takes to build a website.

Now, you need to learn how to perform proper keyword research, proper niche research and from there, the final frontier; which is SEO, both ON Page SEO and OFF Page SEO.

Once you take those steps, you'll be on your way!

        Ryan,
I know EXACTLY where you're coming from. Which is why I'm seriously looking into hiring a coach. I know a lot of marketing folks who act as mentors for me - they're more than kind enough to answer questions and help - but I suffer from analysis paralysis AND shiny object syndrome. So many ways to earn money - which one do I pursue. I need to focus and execute - ie TAKE ACTION and keep focused. Sounds like you do to.

ps - I'm outside of Raleigh but graduated from UNCA and still have family in the Asheville area. I really miss the area and always look forward to my visits back there - maybe we can grab lunch sometime when I'm back up that way. Also feel free to drop me a line. Finally - there are a couple of great marketing chats that take place each Friday and Saturday if you're interested in participating - drop me a PM is you're interested.

    Hi Ryan,

    What's your background?

    What are your hobbies?

    What are your strengths...and weaknesses?

What do you want to achieve? By when? Do you have a plan?

What do you feel you're missing? Skills? Knowledge? Contacts? Confidence? Guidance?

If you *had* to earn just ONE genuine dollar online in the next hour...how would you do it? Could you repeat/refine/expand/outsource the same method?

    Sorry for the questions!...

    Cheers,

    Zabrina beat me to it.

You need to drop everything and start over from scratch. Use Paul's information and worksheets then take a look at what your strengths are and use your strengths for leverage.

Don't think about what you "want to do", or would "like to do". You need to take a look at yourself and do whatever it takes to increase your odds of succeeding.

Once you get some breathing room, you can look at some things you might like to do.

I would suggest that you do need a work buddy or someone to help keep you focused. Since you are not making any money right now, don't spend anything on coaching, software, programs...

Stop spending money, time, and energy on things that are not propelling you forward and only take action on those things that do.

Sitting in front of a computer doing what we do is like being in a vacuum.

Not having anybody to bounce ideas off of is what keeps us from seeing through the cloud that we are creating by running in circles.

Without having clear goals and the necessary steps to achieve them, it's easy to mistake activity for accomplishment.

Steven Fullman's questions and Zabrina's points are definitely good. I'd personally echo the general sentiment from this thread that you need to play to your strengths.

Find something you enjoy and are good at. This will ensure that you do a good job and will stay motivated.

On that note - it sounds like staying motivated is fairly important here. Hence remember:

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."

Different people have different ways of staying motivated. Some read/reread inspirational books, others might meditate or similiar, whilst I have a one page Word doc full of quotes I find inspirational and motivating. Plus I also have "You can't build a reputation on what you're going to do" stuck to my desktop wallpaper so it's the first (and last) thing I see when turning on/off my computer

Either way, figure out how you like to get motivated and be sure to refer to that source whenever you feel the tendency to stray away from your current method and onto the 'next big thing' (i.e. the next big waste of time )

Play to your strengths. Do something you enjoy. Stay motivated.

      Ryan,

The problem I was having last year was I was hopping from one way to make money online to another. But once I had an established plan, I began working on it and immediately outsourced the project.

The reason why I outsourced the project right away was because I already know that I'm easily distracted. If I have people that I've employed sticking to one solid plan to make money online, I knew that I'd be OK.

Once I figured this out about myself I am now much more focused and get a lot more work done. (and make a lot more money)

I've actually JUST started doing the same thing- and it has helped. Although I do have some questions I need answered- and I lost my job yesterday, so I'll be out of funds for a while. So i'll just have to do it myself. But I have noticed that if I'm paying someone to do something then I can prioritize better.

        Thanks,

    Ryan,

Although you seem frustrated, don't let it get the best of you to the point that what people suggest costs you more time and money and gets you no closer to your goals.

Do your own homework! Beware of many testimonials as some of them are bought and paid for and/or are from friends, family and acquaintances.

Be patient; else you could really lose your shirt.

Create a budget, develop a plan, test and analyze before, during and after before committing additional resources to whatever it is.

    Good Luck!

It all starts with the vision.

I know this may sound all common sense, but you need to remind yourself of your vision daily.

Think, what's the end goal. What's the end result. How is your solution going to positively impact the world.

Here's something pretty simple to define a quick strategy.

    Answer these questions:

    1. What is your idea one sentence?
    2. Who are you to execute this idea?
    3. What do you want this idea to become?

Then comes the vital part, execution.

Here's something for you to think about execution wise.

While it's vital to have an aerial view of which steps need to be completed in what order, focus on doing less of the work so you can find the right talent to do more.

See your online efforts as a business. Invest in talent. And invest in it. And get it going.

P.S. Always remember anything worth doing well is worth doing poorly at first, just get it up, make it crappy if need be, crappy is better than nothing.

The regular job I work at we teach consistency and if it is not followed it brings upon consequence I try to make myself feel like I am in the same boat. I guess almost threatening to keep myself in line at times.

I literally have to block myself off parts of the site because I don't want my mind to start racing with new ideas that keeps me off what I am considering "my main track" which is PLRs, no profit yet but we'll see.

    Keep strong my friend :]

    Ryan,
If I may be so bold, you sound a lot like myself.
Tons of knowledge, hard worker, good at providing info, moderate/good sales, but get distracted easily. The "next thing" is your heroin, and you seek it like a junkie. This is precisely what has kept me from being where I want to be today, and something that I'm working on eliminating.

How many "projects" have you developed, start to finish in those last 3 years. And in the same 3 years, how many projects have you developed start-to-....?.... (anything other than finish). Finish = Website, marketing, back-links, the whole shebang. And be honest here.

So, if you're like me, you tend to want to accumulate knowledge more than you want to accumulate wealth. On the surface you seek wealth, but this knowledge is fascinating on the way. And distracting. Is this accurate? And are you succeeding? And is one leading to the other yet? I'm allowed to be wrong here, of course.

Do not spread yourself too thin. If you have been doing ONE THING for the last 3 years, you would be EXACTLY where you want to be today, instead of where you are right now.

It's hard to nail down the most important thing I've learned in my relatively short time here on the forums; but the underlying premise tends to be "Do ONE thing, do it WELL, and do it FULLY".

I will not doubt your intelligence, motivation, nor your ability. WHERE You apply all 3 consistently is up to you; THAT is what will make you successful. Do you want me to just PM you once a week or so and kick yer arse a little bit? I wish you well and mean nothing negative, just you seem a little like me somewhat, and I know my failure is due to distractions and trying too many things. Hope my realization helps you or someone else as well.

Haha I think you're more right than I'd like to admit- and I was actually thinking about how if I had just stuck to one thing in the beginning I'd be fairly wealthy by now- instead of frustrated. It's just a really great lesson I had the misfortune of learning the hard and long way

    Hi there,

I agree with some of the others here; I am sure you have the knowledge that you need to make a success of what you do - but sometimes things can just seem overwhelming and that is one of the things that makes this such a good forum - you get some useful information and yet no-body is patting you on the shoulder going "there, there" - it is awesome.

My 2 cents would be the focus angle - Zabrina had a great idea (am going to try that myself) and then just keep pumping at the one thing that you love. It is a lot easier to stay motivated when you are moving towards something - so set the goal and start putting your plans into action - and yes, finish this time - I know you can do it. Don't get distracted by the "shiny things"

    Best of luck

I've been there, it took me many years to figure it out. I've always been good and helping others turn their good ideas into profit but never had much of my own. I figured it out this year, thank god, finally. I have my formula and it's doing about $5k/week and growing. I've been doing it much longer than you, so don't feel bad.

You want my advice? And it's very rare that I give advice because you end up helping your competitors. But here it is... stop with all the fad services, affiliate marketing, creating info products, junk blogs, adsense sites, etc. Just stop it. Sure, there are folks that make a lot doing these products, but they are rarely long lasting (debatable, I know) and it's hard to do. Instead, start a real, tangible business. Find a niche of actual, real products that you feel you can win, build a small store, and sell the products. Put a real phone number and do real customer service. And don't try and sell adult toys or consumer electronics - go for niche products, for instance, dart boards. Start a small custom dart board or billiards business. Build the site, build links and put all the promotional strategies into place for this site. Also, buy wholesale and be wary of dropshippers - you need solid pricing, drop shipping will typically kill your margin and make you non-competitive.

Here's an idea. Start cleaning pools, build a small pool cleaning services site. Do intense local marketing for you area - "houston pool cleaning" etc... then once you get a route, hire a friend to clean the pools, rinse, repeat.

There are millions of products and niches, pick something that no one on this forum talks about, don't go after the latest fad product that every IM'er is building junk blog sites for.

As for hiring a mentor or a coach, just be careful. The saying tends to ring true - "Those who can't, teach." And many of the marketing coaches only experience in selling on the internet is selling marketing coaching.... silly. Anyways, this will probably start a debate - but that's not my intention. Best of luck.

    WOW!!!

Ryan what troubles you sure has helped me brother. Said more accurately ... just the fact that you were forthcoming and asked for help puts you miles ahead of many who never ask.

Somehow this thread reminds me of when my dad had cancer and we all laid hands on him and prayed. When all was said and done I told my dad "I don't know about you but I feel like I was healed during all of what was meant for your healing".

Well brother I don't know if your situation has been healed but once again I feel like mine has so I truly appreciate you stepping out like you did.

You have been given some excellent ideas ... some of the absolute best that I have ever heard and that is just one more reason why I love the WarriorForum.

This has been an incredible thread filled with some solid ideas that if you, myself and others were to take a serious look at what was said, and then look at where we are and where we are going, map out a plan of ACTION ... we will all get to our destinations and hopefully touch many other lives in a positive way along our journey.

This may help you as well...

I once read an incredible book years ago that has a lot of wisdom in it. The odd thing was that I did not take the action steps exactly as it was laid out in that book although I did extract and implement "some" of the ideas given.

This past week I was reminded of that book and so I got it, opened and read it through once ... and now I am starting over and this time I am doing exactly as it instructed. I'm certain that things will improve in my life because the principles taught in it are solid and true. I believe you and others can benefit from it as well.

The book is called "The Greatest Salesman in the World" by Og Mandino.

I encourage you to check this out and at the minimum give it a complete read through. Then I encourage you to do as I am and start from the beginning and implement what is taught.

My parting words will be to get focused on one thing ... and get that working and producing an income. Once you have one producing, then it's ok to start something else ... but not before.

Ryan I wish you much success my friend as I do to all the many others who have stopped by with words of encouragement, wisdom and knowledge.

Mike, forget about any systems for a while. Providing value is an excellent attitude, but first try to find out what, on the internet as a whole, is scarce.

I'm not just talking about something like low-competition keywords; I'm talking about REALLY stepping back and REALLY looking at the big picture. Something lacking and scarce on the internet, but not quite explicitly stated by everyone.

AFTER you figure this out, any "system" you use to monetize this opportunity becomes a piece of cake to earn with because the value is there. Instead of trying to figure out the best technology for drilling for oil, find an oil deposit first and you could become a millionaire even if you had an oil well made of bamboo sticks (which by the way, were what the Chinese used in the 5th century AD).

I think maybe 'Self-Delusion' is your problem here. In the UK we have Lord Sugar and 'The Apprentice'. They all give the same spiel as you have about 'your'self. Almost all go on to prove that they are just smartly dressed Looney's - this could be your problem - Sorry :-(

Your best bet would be to survey all of your friends and relatives, see what feed-back they give you. I'm sure all the other Warriors here mean well by giving you 'sound' advice which they are probably well qualified to do - BUT ... "If you aint got the foundations, you aint gonna build" I prefer a little bit of good old honest truth. It's far more effective if a little paiful at first.

Lance the boil, it hurts, but it gets better quickly, leave it and it festers into a much bigger problem.

    That's my psychobabblers two-penneth :-)

    Thanks again.

    Peace,

When someone is first getting started online and they ask people for ways they can make money and the response is "Do what you are passionate about"...

Now that's interesting because most people miss the message on that one.

"Do what you are passionate about"

So, the REAL message of "Do what you are passionate about" is complete focus. If your so overwhelmingly passionate about something you'll do it regardless if your getting paid to do it, right?

You have a burning desire to work on, accomplish and move forward with the one thing you are most passionate about.

The reason people say "Do what you are passionate about" is then you will have complete focus and stick with it until you start making money from it.

Don't go into it and think about "Now how can I make money from this"... rather, feed your passion and make things happen that you feel good about doing like creating a blog you can voice your opinion about a topic your passionate about or creating a book, membership site, etc... that shares your insights into your passion.

Is this starting to make sense?

The reason everyone jumps around from one thing to another is because they have yet to find their true passion...
