Question about blogs on a single domain

Several blogs on one domain? Definitely not recommended.

It is more advisable to buy cheap .info domains and put your blogs on them.

If you really wanted to be discrete, get some cheap reseller hosting account and spread your sites around.

Ditto. All those blogs under 1 domain are not 'normal' and WILL get you slapped by Google. If not now, soon.

I wasn't suggesting that Wordpress.com is doing something bad.

My answer was in context with gmoney38's question. I'm assuming that he is not a highly respected industry leader by his question: 'can you make money out of this...'

gmoney38: you're asking can you make money from dumping a load of blogs under 1 domain and adding offers on them.

If you're going to run a business online, then my advise would be not to do the above.

1 - you're making more work for you
2 - you may put your business on the line

Everybody else: this is not a question about membership sites.

gmoney38: if you were a search engine, would you be OK with what you're doing? (this is a question for yourself).

Take goldblogger's advice: Create a business that makes money, not a blog that might make money.

If you want to make money from a blog in the way you describe, then:

- set up 1 blog, focused on 1 niche or sub niche
- deliver some value through your content (tips, videos, articles)
- set up relevant offers

When that works, scale it up. Set up your second blog, related to the first blog, so you can make cross-offers.

When that works, scale up again. At this point you'll be building your own blueprint for successfully doing this.

You'll make mistakes, but you'll learn from them.

If you're hoping to set up a membership site, or a community based site, or anything in between, then yes, set up a ton of blogs under 1 domain.

If you're hoping to make fast cash with a bunch of affiliate offers, set up single blogs to do the job, not something that looks like your own link-network (splog network).

Thanks everyone for thier responses. I havent created this blog yet but I ran across that one and just wanted some feedback...

@goldblogger You mentioned create a business that makes money any ideas what is it that you do. I am still somewhat new to all this so anything that you forsee that can make money guranteed instead of maybe make money im all ears

@j0s3 Why will google try and slapp me for doing this. I dont see anything wrong with having sub domains on one domain it is offered by many domain and hosting companies as well

Have to agree with Alexa on this one.

There are several people, including myself, who create sub domains off of the main domain.

Not only is this normal, but it can have many benefits that are too numerous to go into here.

To say that you should have one blog/site per domain is just silly.:confused:

that's right!! if you using sub domain for spamming purpose e.g back link, Phishing or etc.etc, Big G will only slapped your sub domain, of course Big G will recognize your files to, but at least your domain still safety from Big G Madness lol

, and please don't use it that strategy cause for some reason, if you doing 5e0 correctly believe it or not you'll get first pages In Big G listing less than 1 month and stand there for a long-long times(2 years) of course if you know how to 5e0 your website, anyway thanks for asking

Most things Google, whether PR or a penalty etc. apply on an individual page level. If what you're worried about is true, how do you explain content aggregator sites like ehow with thousands of authors many of whom engage in Black hat tactics for their own articles? Usually on those sites you only see individual pages penalized, and they're not even using subdomains.

Hi all

This is something I have trouble getting my head round.

I understand the difference between a blog and website but have a few questions.

1. Do You start a blog on a subdomain?
2.I have a 1 page website already, do I start the blog on this? So the webpage will not be live anymore but the blog will?
3.Best place for a free blog?
4.Hosting the blog would be the same hosting account as my domain?

Hope this makes sense!! I am trying to figure out what would be best. Have different pages on a website or a blog!
