Bit of subdomain advice needed...

Hi There,

Not a rocket science question and I'm 90% sure what I am about to do is fine but I have one general site www.xyz.com and I currently do not use that for anything just the subdomains.

What I would like to do is put the same articles and content from the subdomains into catergories on the actual domain.

I hope this makes sense to someone. Also if anyone from the war room answers I am using "the conduit" type articles

Thank,

Jacob

I am wondering whethering it will affect the ranking by copying and pasting the content from the subdomains...

  • Google views sub-domains as separate sites. Duplicating your content would be like putting it on any other domain. You want to spend all your time building links to both? What's the point?

In the end Google will pick which it thinks is more important.

If you wanted to develop the strategy somewhat, write more of a "spun" summary of the particular articles, include link at the bottom. Then put those summaries into the categories on the primary domain as you were thinking before. Short summary should help avoid duplicate content, but does take a little more effort than copy/paste.

There's so much content you could create for the main domain without duplicating content and risk its search engine ranking.

Add links to those articles from the subdomains onto the main domain, but let the main domain have its own identity, imho.
