Do videos increase sales?

I'm thinking of adding video to my website but I'm not sure if it's a big deal or not. What do you think?

You can get what people think all day but really it just comes down to trying it and seeing if it works.

Maybe describe your niche and someone can tell you if they have tried something similar but really some people like videos, some don't but you can't really tell if it will work for you unless you test it out.

Everyone accepts common group-think as if it's fact. But for every person here who insists that videos are the end-all/be-all of both traffic and sales there is an opposite person who really gave it a shot using the best SEO and other techniques only to not drive significantly higher numbers.

As Mike said, the only thing you can do is test. Everything else is just opinion.

    Hi Tony.

When you create your video, make sure you have your website link in the frames.

Some say put it in the first and last frames, but I see where more videos have it on every frame analogous to a watermark. Test it different ways to see which pulls the most.

Of course, the content must rock!

    Just test it for yourself.

With some sites/niches it may work great and with other sites/niches it won't work as well.

    You are the answer!

No. Videos do not increase sales.

Good solid convincing and impressive content in a video can increase sales.

    Videos do not.

Yeah. I am going to go out on a limb and suggest the OP was not asking if a lousy video would help his conversions.

Split testing would be prudent for most online products. Start testing with or without a video. If the video page does much better, then you can even split test different videos.

I am not planning any future product without video, but I also think there is a risk in not having a text version (or PDF) of your message.

I agree, Paul. Putting yourself out there on video means your visitors get alot more of YOU than they do in your written content. They can see you and hear you - meaning if you don't really know all your facts, they'll see it on your face. Or, if you're just a stereotypical marketer who's just trying to make a quick buck, they'll see that, too. I think that if you're an honest, genuine expert in your niche, videos can really help boost your credibility.

It definitely depends on how you apply it. Videos are fantastic as a supplement to a written sales letter, but as standalone sales material you run the risk of losing people who just can't be bothered sitting through a video. Warmer prospects who view both will either view the video first then scroll down for more detailed information in writing, while others might do it the other way round. As long as it is supplementary, I would say it's a great tool for increasing the conversion rate of warmer prospects (who are more likely to view it anyway) and thus increase sales.

Since I run a video membership site I'm a little bias towards video marketing so IMHO my answer would be yes, the RIGHT videos can ceratinly help your online efforts.

To be dead honest, i dont really use too many videos on my sites..

But in my personal experience it definitely ads value to a site, and a certain level on interactivity...when compared to a text-only sales letter.

Videos will also help improve your rankings, as the search engines will see more value in your content.

If you are providing valuable content to your readers in a video format in your website, it will be great and it will increase your credibility in the long run.

    Hope it helps...

I have found that it totally helps in some niches and hurts in others... And you also want to do a lot of thinking about what you use the video for and what you put in it, because a crappy video will most likely only hurt.

A good solution is animoto.. This is really easy to use and you just need to get some images together and they work really well and look very professional.

I agree with the others. The outcome highly relies on how would you do it. Just cross your fingers for positive things to rise. Just do your thing.

It depends on why your adding video to your website and what the purpose of your website is.

It may be that you're better off having a video website (pre-sell / sales video) than an actual blog if you are doing affiliate sales as an example.

I would say, first of all determine the purpose of your site and then dress it up accordingly

If it's a bad video don't bother...if it's a good one then go for it.

You have suggested a very good point. Videos may get hike to your products and visitors. It is because by using videos we can send our message to viewers more easily. They don't need to spend more time on reading. On the other hand, it is way to get information through entertainment.

Testing is the absolute best way to find out if video will help convert better for you.

It has been proven that the more you involved your senses the more you will learn and retain.

The key is understanding and knowing your audience. By creating video that your audience relates to, while simultaneously building trust, and then lead into a call to action will absolutely increase conversion.

Good quality content is the key.

Without that you are dead in the water.

Unfortunately, there's no catch-all answer to this video question. I believe videos to be incredibly effective marketing tools if used correctly. If you choose to include a video remember these Do's & Don'ts. DON'T: 1)Make the play volume too loud 2)Cram too much info in the video or 3)Let the video run longer than 1-3 minutes. DO: keep it short and simple. Today's culture is becoming increasingly more dependent on finding information on the net and their attention span is getting shorter. If the video is too long, They'll leave before you can grab their attention.

It really depends on the niche and how badly people want the information. I have tried a few videos on some of my sites and had a rather large bounce rate. I shortened them and that helped visitor retention a little but not drastically. It's highly possible that I'm just not good at video marketing but plain old text has worked just fine for me. I know for me personally I don't like videos when I can just read through the page much faster but that's me.

I have a theory that video success is age related. I could be wrong and am ready to be proven so.

But it seems to me that the younger, non-reading, MTV generation crowd adores video. I'm not saying it's bad or good, it just is. Young people are video driven.

And for cantankerous curmudgeons such as myself, we'd rather be boiled in oil than sit through one more stinking video.

    At least I would.

    YMMV.
