Does the past history of your domain name impact your current site?

Hi there,

I have just been doing a check on my sites to make sure they have all been indexed by Google. One of my sites shows up all of the backlinking I have done to it; the twitter posts for it; my articles and videos; even the posts I have had selling the PLR rights to the material BUT the site link itself isn't showing up at all.

I did notice when I was searching that the domain name had been "dropped" in 2007 and I presumed that just meant that someone had just not renewed it - but is it possible that it was Google slapped or something similar all those years ago and Google won't index the site now.

I totally admit I don't know anything about this type of thing, but any tips on how I can find out more would be helpful.

Thanks
Lisa

Someone told me the website I bought from closeout hydrocodone-vicodin.com could have negative backlinks and could effect my site because it was once an online pharmacy. I am hoping this is no the case considering it has 550 preset backlinks when I purchased it.

That doesn't sound good - maybe someone here will pass on a tip on how to check that type of thing out before buying a domain name? I thought I would be pretty safe in my niche, but I can't work out why I am not showing up in the Google search results - even with a straight quote on the site name.

      Thanks

I was gonna check the "wayback machine" with Alexa but it wouldn't let me for your site...and according to them there are no recorded backlinks, which obviously could be wrong.

Yes, the past history of a domain name could negatively impact the current owner's site.

For example, there are sites that will not accept submitted links and advertisers who forbid their ads from being placed on it if at anytime in the domain's history that it contained adult content.
