Site Flippers, doesn't it sort of suck when...

...you have 10-12 people all watching your 5 day listing and yet on a busy Wednesday evening when the auction is in its closing minutes, nobody ends up bidding on it and it sells for a fraction of what you thought it would? Yeah, a bit disappointing. But oh well, at least it's not quite equivalent to a director making a $100 million movie only to see it bomb badly at the box office! Things could always be worse! Just move on, forget about it, and I guess...better luck next time!

it's a dirty game and nobody is willing to clean it .

That is what is scaring me off from trying, but it will eventually have to be done. Sorry for your loss.

Dirty game? Because he listed a site that didn't sell? Where do you get that? There's nothing dirty about buying and selling websites.

That's the thing with potential. It's a lot better to sell a site that has been monetized already and already getting traffic and revenue than to try to sell potential.

Bingo. Startups no longer sell. Gone are the good ol' days where you can build up a site in four hours then flip it the same day or the very next day for a few hundred dollars.

Actually the site did sell Suzanne. But I was kinda licking my chops that day and thinking "Well it's Wednesday evening, likely the busiest day for auctions, there's 4 bids already and 10 people are watching my auction and I'm betting they've got their finger on the button and ready to make their bids in the last 3 minutes of my auction! When I get back from dinner, I bet I'll have sold it for so much money!!!":p
Instead when I come back shortly after to check the auction, nothing!
I mean it's not really a loss but a bit disheartening when thinking you're giving away something proven and valuable but the bids don't come. Although the buyer of the site is especially grateful and ecstatic over getting a good deal for a complete sales funnel for a unique product. LOL!

It is disheartening, especially when you put a lot of work into a site. I bought a site for $1,000 and then decided I didn't want to use it. Listed it on Flippa and the highest offer was $500. Boy was he a happy camper. I let it go at that.

Ah, that's happened to me back on eBay. At the end of it, there is always one person who is overjoyed. LOL!

Ok, advice for site flipping newbies. Always put in a Reserve price and check the market to see what similar sites are going for.

maybe those people watching forget to bid, I have watched many things on ebay then forgot about them because the auction didnt end for 5 days or so.

Its a dilemma I often face, 1 day auction or a few days auction.
1 day and run the risk of it not being noticed, any longer and run the risk of people watching it then forget about it.

    Yeah, it does suck.

But then some other day you might list a website that gets you 3 times what you wanted simply because 2 people were on the computer that night and both of them HAD to have it.

That's the thing about auctions, you just never know!

yeah it does, sometimes what I do is add bonuses to entice the buyers to buy it at the BIN price.I usually will add services. So... let's say it's a 3 days auction. I'll wait and see if anyone bids within the first 24hrs. If not I will add some useful service. Depending on how bad you want to sell it. You might have to reduce price and add service, but I rather add value then lower the price.

I always time mine to end in the evening so that people are home from work etc. However it can be quite hard when your on a site where everyone is from different parts of the world.

True. I think according to Travis Von Loot who used to own flipwebsites, it was said that Wednesday was THE BEST day for auctions. Still kinda strikes me as odd that when everything is set in place and people are genuinely interested in your site or product and yet nobody puts in a bid, you kinda think "Well where did it go wrong?"
Then again, I've seen auctions where a person's site didn't reach the low reserve but then in the second auction, it goes for 3-4 times the reserve price. It's an odd but fascinating game!:p

You certainly do, or your money is worthless. I just bought a site that I am still waiting for in the health niche, the only thing I am quite bad with is promoting sites.

I think the main difference here is that the $100 Million is very rarely the director's own money
