What's the best way to record yourself + screen capture?

Hi Friends,

I got GVO Conference because I like how the template looks, having the image of me presenting in the upper left and most of the screen showing what's on my browser or (ideally, if I could get it to work) a video I play, OpenOffice Presentation, etc.

That's what I want to record.

In fact I gave a 90-minute presentation, which cut off abruptly at 39 minutes.

(And recorded two overlapping windows of me talking into the camera, as another issue.)

This is just me giving a presentation - it doesn't need to be a webinar because no one is attending it live.

What do you think would be the best way for me to record these videos?

I think all I really need is one small window capturing my camcorder and most of the screen showing my browser.

Thanks for your recommendations!

Warmly,
Dan

If that GVO Conference takes care of having your image in the upper left of the screen already, and all you need is to record the screen along with audio, then you could easily just use camstudio, which is a free download. It will just record the whole screen for you, and it's a free program and it works.

Otherwise, you could try the free 30-day trial of camtasia as well, which has a bit more options and you can edit the video afterwards. If you what you're doing just needs 30 days or less, you can do that and it will work fine. Free download, no credit card require until the 30 days are up.

Thank you for your suggestions. I do have Camtasia, the full version that was offered free two or three years ago, which works well.

That's worth testing again using Camatasia as a backup recording.

      Thanks,

        Dan,

Keep in mind that if your computer is a tad slow and your video card is not up to snuff, recording with Camtasia or any other screen catpure software while the webinar is live can bring things to a slow moving crawl. That's not a good thing...

It's best to test this out first before you go live with a large audience.

    Oh, thanks Bill!

I was concerned about the RAM Camtasia might use, on top of what the GVO Conference software requires to keep up with the video stream.

If the GVO Conference video was already lagging behind the audio, that implies to me Camtasia would make that worse than it was already (slightly annoying, almost a second behind).

Thank you for the advisory or warning! I think I'll be seeking another way.

    Warmly,
    Dan
