I am thinking maybe I would like to set up a membership site...however...I do not want to do something that has been beat to death...so what type of sites do you see a need for?...as in what type would you sign up for and pay that monthly fee?

It would really depend on what you could offer on this membership site - almost everything has been done in the IM niche, I think you may have to go outside it.

I would pick a niche that sounds so uncool it probably is, like a site for old book lovers and where they can find rare first editions; or something like that which would have a really good established target market, but were not likely to have been impacted by IM techniques - I mean golf and dog training have been done to death, lol.

    Carl,

I don't think that if anybody has a great idea for a membership site that they're just going to give it away on here for nothing. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Why not start with something your passionate about... Then you won't abandon the project half-way through. Find your passion and focus on the markets questions.... become an investigative reporter and report the truth.

There are problems in every industry and every market, find the problems. become a truth seeker and the money will follow.

Seeing all the BS that is around these days, I'm betting that an honest membership site with loads of useful information will work, no matter the market.

However, I don't see why you wouldn't do it the traditional way. You know, brainstorming niches, doing a keyword research... Only then, focus on membership site instead of promoting affiliate products or w/e.
