New Hostgator Changes Causing Problems

Hi Everybody,

I just ran into this problem. I noticed that I haven't been getting any sales on any of the clickbank products I'm an affiliate with. So I started checking all of my pages. The pages came up fine, but when I clicked on the links or buttons, I got this message:

"You don't have permission to access /plg/plg_frames.php on this server."

I'm using Power Link Generator to for sending the customers to the product sales letter. All of my PLG links have stopped working. I took a look in Google and found this link: MikeSoftwareForum.com :: View topic - Huge Problem - Need Urgent Help PLEASE

This fellow had the same problem and Hostgator didn't resolve it, so he had to find another hosting company.

I contacted Hostgator and they told me it was not practical for them to let us know whenever they make a change. They also, as of yet, have not resolved this issue. They are going to try a workaround.

Anyone else having problems with Hostgator lately?

  • I've had problems recently with Add-on Domains starting about a week ago. Every time I've added a new domain it goes to a Host Gator parking page or default Host Gator 404 page. They've had to restart Apache to correct it.

    • HG upgraded to php5 a while back - that may be the problem. However, I have to wonder what method you are using for support. The chat function is the lowest level of support and I never use it with HG.

I've had excellent support - and they solved my problem on this issue of php5 quickly - by sending a detailed description of the problem by email to HG support.

  • I have a hosting account with Hostgator, and about a week ago had a problem similar, except with my BayRSS plugin. I sent a well-thought out email explaining the problem and about half a day later they fixed it on their end. It had something to do with a recent update to their servers. Hm. Your problem sounds like it has more complexities :/ Good luck.
  • Hostgator does not support 3rd party apps... Why not contact the owner/developer of Power Link Generator ??

Website does not seem to want to load but if this is a clocking thing why not just use .htaccess ???

  • Uh, It's not a problem with Power Link Generator, it's a problem with Hostgator. They made some changes a while back and PLG was just the first thing I noticed that was blowing up.

They had to whitelist my account in order to resolve the issue.

I stil lthink they can do a better job of letting us know of major changes (a change that stops things from working is a major change in my book).

    • I had a similar problem with Hostgator when trying to access the Fantasos login page on one of my domains. I got a 403 error message saying I couldn't access the page.

I contacted Hostgator Support, who told me to get in touch with their Security Department.

Security said they had flagged up the script, which they are obviously doing with other scripts as well. However, now that I had contacted them, they said there shouldn't be any further access issues for that page.
  • I had that same problem with PLG and Hostgagtor many months ago. Neither HG or PLG support forums were able to help, but I did find that my PLG folders had their permissions changed.

I can give more details in a moment if you need it as I can't quite remember the exact folders and permission settings off the top of my head.

I had to change all the permissions on most of my sites to fix the problem. Now I try to check my links more frequently as I am afraid it will happen again.
  • It looks as if the instructions at PLG now make a small note of the permission settings.
Make sure you use 755 instead of 777 or other settings. When I first started using PLG with HG I don't think it mattered, but new security platforms make it necessary to use 755.

    I hope that helps.
  • ive had similar problems with my hostgator account last week. the sites just took forever to load up. I contacted them, they restarted apache and it all started working fine.
  • I'm afraid it's not just at Host Gator... I've had the same problems while using Power Link generator but only half of my links blew up.

Have not a clue what the problem is however I have stopped using Power Link generator until more light is shed on the source of the problem...

    • Not sure if anybody can recommend here, but what is the best alternative to PLG (and/or Hostgator)?

Are you simply just clicking links and finding the problem with some or all?

      Any additional insight is appreciated...Thanks

(You can tell I don't get out much...hehe)
  • I have a free redirect script at Free Affiliate Link Cloaker - Redirect Magic but it doesn't drop cookies like plg.

    • If a company told me that I wouldn't need any more answers from them.

I would simply not host with them.

      Bye bye host gator.

Why would anyone gamble with their business when a host is not reliable?
  • Hosts update their software all the time, like from PHP4 to PHP5.
And it seems a solution to this issue has been posted above.
  • When Hostgator changed my passwords without my permission earlier this year I switch to Hostmonster. I haven't had problems with Hostmonster. Just my 2cents.
