Making A Successful Squeeze/Landing Page: 3 Questions.

I have a site right now that is getting lots of daily traffic but is setup up as an, admittedly, poor review site. I want to redo the entire site and make it have an opt in/list instead of just be a review, and I'm thinking about making a video/audio slideshow that introduces what I have to offer and then asks them to opt in below... but I have a couple of questions:

1) Should the video be auto play or have a message that asks them to start it?

2) My funnel right now is going to be this sort of video squeeze/info page, after successful sign up you are redirected to my experiences with and review of a product, a sort of soft sell. Then the list will consist of 7 or so emails spaced by 1-2 days packed with info and product suggestions in the later messages.

3) I want this tiredness/fatigue website to be genuine and so was thinking of writing it under an alias very similar to myself, a college student where time and energy are crucial with day to day studies, exams, etc. Do you think this will isolate much of the search audience that are likely middle aged parents / career holders?

Thanks so much for your input!

You might also consider the SEO aspects of your landing page. If you replace a text review page with a video, will you still get the same ranking - and traffic - by the search engines?

In other words, when you design your landing page, try to keep the shift to the new style as seamless as possible to avoid disrupting the flow of traffic. One way, would be to have some text (that can be read by the search engines) following the video. Remember, bots aren't very good at assessing videos but they read text (and image captions) very well.

Like others, I don't personally like autoplay videos but the deciding factor should be what works best for you with your visitors. Try them both out and see which is more effective. Don't dismiss the idea of a text (with pictures) style of landing page as that can also work well.

As for the age concerns, you will probably feel more comfortable, and be more authentic, providing a story your own age group can identify with. Then add more general material that all age groups can identify with, as fatigue / tiredness are issues that can affect everyone.

Also, be sure to add an exit popup to give visitors a second chance to sign up if they don't bite the first time.

I think your video should be on auto play and your other ideas seem good especially since you are receiving a lot of traffic.

No. Why, because I hate it. I may be looking at something at a weird hour of the day - the LAST thing I want is a voice booming out of my speakers waking the whole house when I didn't expect any sound.

Watch the review part right after opt-in... lead me into your web. Lure me in. It's a dance. Think seduction.

Why an alias? I mean, it's ok and there ARE many reasons, but if YOU ARE a tired/fatigued college student, then BE that student. Explain how YOU were impacted by this product.

Well, if you can bridge the gap, you've got a great market. You are "their" kid, you just "get it". Think about money. Parents send their kids to college, often at great expense. The kid spends 3 weeks there and calls home for cash - they are broke.

If YOU are that kid, but you FIGURED it out, then they might listen to you. Make sense?

Thanks a lot! I feel like my text setup isn't working right now, but since I'm asking for a sale and not an opt in that could be the deciding factor. I think I'm going to try the video/audio message first and then go from there.

I agree about the autoplay on a video being a major turn-off well...click-off

I think either audio or video are fine, but never as an autoplay. It just annoys the umm...heck out of me. Even if I stay on the page I feel annoyed I had to kill my speakers or find the stop button on the player.

As far as an alias I think it's better to be upfront about your age. There is so much duplicity in IM and while in this example there is nothing wrong with an alias, my sense is it will make your marketing easier and more effective by just being who you genuinely are.

As someone who has to do some dubious math to lower my age to qualify for "middle age" I am not put off at all by someone of college age with helpful information. If you felt some people might have a concern you could have some information about your experience with the product(s) helping other age groups.

    Best of luck!

Yes, all i have to say is this; concerning the videos, it should be made to be played by the visitor to your page. it gives a better and more professional design.
