The value of submitting articles

Hi,
We are spending a lot of time writing articles on our chosen subject and submitting them to the many sites out there.

The main purpose is to get the backlinks in order to improve our Google rankings. We have high hopes for all this time and energy spent and I am wondering if we should keep at it. I really hope so.

Your expert opinions would be appreciated.

I just read the post above about ezines being a waste of time however, I don't mind giving away my content and although traffic would be nice, as I said my main objective is to get the backlinks.

I think it is not a waste of time if the articles are well written and people want to link to them.

Article is hands down one of the best ways (if not the best) to get targeted traffic to your site. The majority of your traffic will come from EzineArticles so don't be too surprised if you don't see a lot from the other article directories. Buzzle is pretty good also but difficult to get accepted.

Other article directories can still be an effective way of getting solid backlinks. I'd stick to the ones with a pagerank of 2 or higher. Also, keep a submission plan going for a more than a week or two. In other words, stick with submitting consistently for a few months because it takes awhile to get some momentum going but it is well worth it.

You have to make sure they your articles are extra special because that is the only way you will get your syndication numbers up, otherwise you will just end up with one article directory backlink, which is fine as well but it is only small part of article marketing.

What you really need to concentrate on, is to get your articles to go beyond article directries and that they would keep building you relevant backlinks even when you sleep.

I would definitely agree with this.

Once you learn how to write and format your articles properly you can get amazing results (I know I do).

But the main benefit as I see it is the longevity of these results, I get a ton of clicks every day from articles written a long time ago

Once again Guys, thank you all so much for your input, it is really appreciated. I am an old fogie of 59 years and only came into computers 9 years ago so it's hard to learn. We now make a living from hypnosisrecordings dot net

We have a good product that we sell from our website as well as Amazon and ebay but we need to get our numbers up. Our pension plans hit the deck not long ago, so we need to make some money for our future. I guess we are no different to anyone else in that respect.

Each article is an extension of your web site.

They are all mini-web pages that occupy virtual real estate on the net.

Think of it this way and ask yourself if you should continue to write and syndicate articles.

Don't rule out EZA just yet.

There are, however, other sites you can submit articles to that will help your site perform better in the search engines.

For instance, my website was #8 for a few months, and for some reason, no amount of backlinking would make it budge.

Then I asked for more article submission site ideas and got several helpful answers. I started submitting to these sites, and within a week, my site went from #8 to #6.

Here's some of the ones I've been using:

      Amazines
      Articles Base
      Article Bin
      Article Biz
      Article Nexus
      Article Snatch
      Easy Articles
      Ezine Articles
      Go Articles
      Jabberdi

From what I have seen and many others it is not a waste of time.

My opinion that a lot of people do not share is that you can submit the content all over the place without fear of duplicate content penalty if you have the content indexed on your site first.

I have used plenty of tools for automated article submission. I don't bother anymore. I really only submit to Ezine. I haven't done a lot of article marketing but from what I have done Ezine always delivers if you do your keyword homework and optimize the content. If you don't then the article isn't worth much - just 1 backlink.

Also, I haven't really seen much difference in my SEO from posting to lots of article directories vs posting to just Ezine. That said, I'm always open to the possibility that I'm posting my articles to the wrong sites. However, it has been more effective for me to concentrate on posting articles to Ezine then building a few backlinks to that articles (once it is accepted). This is because getting an Ezine article on the first page of Google - when properly keyword optimized - isn't hard and a fair number of people who read those articles will click on a link in a well crafted signature.

So Ezine continues to deliver decent traffic to my sites. If I build a few backlinks to the article then often the article can get a PR of 1 or 2 and then the backlink from Ezine is worth more.

Articles take time to write and time to learn how to write them correctly. And if you pick your keyword poorly the article won't ever deliver much traffic or SEO oomph.

That's been my experience (limited as it is).

I agree with what Howinfo stated earlier:
Make sure your articles are HIGH quality in order to boost your syndication.
Spend a little more time on the quality and you'll get more mileage out of
      your article's backlink juice potential.

Article are fine for backlinks, just keep in mind that you want to diversify
with other types of backlinks as well.

      To your success,
      Matt

        Hi RMS,

Yes, please do feel encouraged to continue article marketing, it works

If you just keep writing articles, and submitting them, you might get a little burned out.

So write some articles, submit them to EZA. Then, do a few re-writes and submit to the sites Rikki Fawkes listed. Inside each of these new articles, place a link to your EZA original article.

Post some more "articles" on sites like Tumblr, Posterous, and LiveJournal (and tons more if you want). All of these point to your blog, and to your EZA original article.

Then go get your RSS feeds for all of these pages, submit them. Get even more link juice heading to your EZA original article and blog.

Don't forget to let everybody on FaceBook and Twitter know that you have a new article posted (more traffic, and more links).

If you have a mailing list, let them know too. Give them a link to click through to your article. Drive up your views, and you may find yourself in EZA's Most Viewed category, then the fun really begins.

I could go on and on. But my point is don't burn yourself out submitting one article after another to EZA, and waiting for a Home Run.

Get your content out there all over the place, pointing at EZA. Depending on competition, the article itself could rank in the SERP top 10 for your keyword phrase. Not to mention all of the link love pointing at your blog/site.

Have fun with article marketing, I hope it goes great for you!

        Best wishes.

I started by just putting them in the resource box but I now realise that they need to go into the body also.

I just started using ezinearticles dot com for backlinking to my Squidoo lenses. My first article was just published today, and it hit #1 on Google for my long tail keyword, with seven of my lenses taking the next 7 spots. The keyword in the end of my long tail has my Squidoo lens in first place, and the ezine article in 6th or 7th.

Based on that little bit of feedback, I'm thinking that article marketing may be an exceptionally useful way to get my Squidoo lenses ranking higher. Your mileage, of course, may vary, so all appropriate disclaimers should apply.

I'm very happy; now if they'd just get the rest of my articles approved so I can get on with my plans, LOL.

It’s true. Sending your articles to different site is just like distributing your website address all over the internet. In fact, you’ll see high page rank results around six months of submitting articles on different directories

One thing no one mentions is the keywords you target.

Article marketing works well, and quickly, if you target keywords with reasonable traffic and relatively low competition. I use the following technique to find score my keywords:

    1) Find the keywords using AdWords Keyword Tool.
    2) Check to see the number of results on Google for that keyword by searching using a phrase match - "keyword keyword'
    3) As a general rule of thumb if the keyword has more than 500 monthly searches and less than 21,000 results on Google you can probably rank well for it.

You also need to sprinkle your article marketing with other links. If all your links only come from article sites they won't have as much effect.

    For the extra links try:

    Directory submission
    Social Bookmarks
    Blog Commenting

    Hope this helps.

This is a valuable way to build backlinks and traffic for your website, because..think a little bit...if your website it's a puzzle, then each article is a part of the puzzle, right no ?
So..do not be afraid of using this way.
Personally I use this method for some years and I'm very satisfied.

As long as the articles are of high quality and they are unique it shouldn't be considered to much of a waste of time- just monitor your stats. Of course you may want to use some software however to make the process of submission a little less arduous.

Absolutely! There's no doubt that writing articles is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site. The backlinks are critical for obvious reasons, and if you write good articles, you'll drive traffic from the article directories.

Here's a little tip to help your articles get indexed by Google. After you post a new article, always bookmark it with Delicious or Digg or whatever. Google crawls the social bookmarking sites quite frequently, but it ignores many of the low PR article directories. So, by bookmarking your article, Google will usually find it pretty quickly. As a matter of fact, you should probably bookmark every blog comment and every forum comment you make for the same reason!

    Cheers!

I am newish to article marketing and have almost submitted my 10th article. So far I think it is well worth it and it helped me in realizing that I need to make my site look better as the traffic doesn't convert so far. But at least I am getting some exposure that I otherwise might not have had. I definitely encourage anyone to try to write as often and as well as they can. It is a satisfying feeling writing your own content and even though I often use PLR I change it radically so it is virtually my own work anyway apart from some of the main ideas.
What frustrates me is the manual submission as it takes me longer than writing the article itself LOL.
I want to use an automated submission service but I am on a tight budget so most of the good ones are out of my reach. I want to learn how to get the best bang for each article and maximize my backlinks.
I've been burnt by buying a useless product like "Miracle" (LOL) Traffic Bot, so I am once bitten twice shy now. Still I would be interested in something that is reasonable and value for money. Not interested in exorbitant monthly fees like Unique Article Wizard etc.

Instead of submitting to a thousand directories out there, choose a few that matter. Take Ezine Articles for example, If you become an expert author you can get you articles send through their RSS subscriptions and displayed in high traffic pages for maximum exposure. I would say you are going to get a better deal here than 1000 little directories out there nobody cares to look at.

I love Ezinearticles! I dinked around a couple of years building up sites that did very little income wise. Then I hooked into a merchant that offered article writing mentoring. I've been making some pretty decent cash ever since. Not, busting out in 6-figure months, but I'm able to make car payments with some left over. Just stick with it and try to stick to one product until you see some conversions.

    Best,
