What is the definition of "local searches" in Google vs Global

Hi Gang

When I search in Google keyword tool, I have it set to UK. When the search results come up, you have Global searches and Local...does Local mean UK or is it more...uhhh....local than that, i.e county, or town etc?

Many thanks
Phil

    Local = country

    it is also related to google's datacenter that processes searches. they've got separate deatcenters in most of the major countries, using same engine but operating with their own set of data. this means that if you search from the UK, but using google.fr, your search will probably get attributed to french locality

    note that even if you target global coverage, your keyword will have very different standing if searched from different locations (range can be from #1 in one place to #nowhere in another). you can check it by searching for your keyword in different google domains, google.com, google.ca, .co.uk, .fr, .de, etc
