How to value my site and other questions ...

Hi
I need some advice.

About a year ago I created a website that I could use as a sort of SEO testing ground. I picked a random B2B niche and went for it. Now, the site is in the top three on Google for some very competitive keywords and gets good traffic for this niche. In terms of ranking, I out-rank Amazon, Nextag and Walmart for some strong keywords, also I out-rank some trade portals and the manufacturers' sites in other categories.

I'd like to monetise the site but I am not sure of the best way to do it.

There are three categories of products, each with different price bands:

Category A: From $100 - $10,000 midway price around $2000
Category B: From $2500 - $30,000
Category C: From $600 - $1500, average around $500

I have a couple of options:

1. Try to sell the site to one of the main suppliers.
2. Sell leads

My questions are:

For Option 1 how would I value the site? I thought about putting it on ebay with a minimum price and telling all the manufacturers about the auction.

Option 2 means I will have an on-going income, although I would need to 'manage' the sales leads and invoicing for them. Is there an ebook or website that gives advice about pricing sales leads? I've looked but haven't found one.

The site is pretty basic and I'll enhance prior to marketing it to other companies, but I think the site has a lot of potential. Also I know I could get the SEO to do even better.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks but as I said, the site has been just an SEO testing site so therefore there is no monetisation on it at all.

I think you should use valuation sites like websiteoutlook.com it will help give you rough idea of the site value and other information about your site.

Hi Champstar, that's an interesting website! E.g.

            > Estimeted worth of warriorforum.com is USD 4.18 Million according to websiteoutlook

            Lol.

    1. Yes, there are standard valuation formulas for business. But, may web properties (and real businesses) are sold for much more than those formulas would determine. There's a multitude of variables (potential being one of those) they don't take into account and should never be treated as anything more than a guide.

A business of any sort is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

No to ebay - approach the manufacturers direct, preferably with a proposal based on stats and enquiries you currently receive.

    2. Again speak to the organ grinder, talk to the manufacturers direct. These are high value products - do some research on their conventional and online advertising spend. You may be able to determine or at least estimate what they are paying per lead this way...

If you have got what you say you have don't undervalue it.

IMHO I'd work on monetising the site first - from the sound of things you may be sitting on a goldmine, would be a pity to sell it for it's potential and not ever see it yourself.
