Submitting Press Releases and have a Question

I just aquired a long list of free Press Release sites to submit to and I've also been advised not to submit the same PR to each one. But wouldn't it be okay to submit the same PR to about 5 of them and then spin it and submit to about 5 more and then spin again and another 5...

Is this advisable?

Personally, I would spin them all, but I know a lot of sites have TOC's that want them to be unique and not submitted elsewhere. At the end of the day thought, I can't speak to how efficient they are at tracking and punishing violators. Small scale, you probably won't have any issues.

I'm not quite sure why someone would tell you not to submit the same press release to different outlets. What would be the harm? After all, this is what happens in the real journalism world - someone sends out the same exact press release to the TV stations in town, to the newspaper, etc. It's not like they send one press release to the ABC affiliate, then spin it and send another one to the CBS affiliate, then spin it and send another one to the newspaper. You would wind up with different people getting different versions of the story, or different information.

If you have a good press release, publish it on any of your free PR sites without changing it.

Basically they said it was too much duplicate content that way. That each site ideally would want a different press release, but you could probably get away with submitting the same release to a few of them.

I guess there are no firm rules when it comes to this.

Duplicate content is content that is the same on your own site. So, if you have 2 pages on your site that are the same (like a web version and a print version), it would count as duplicate content.

With press releases, the goal is to get them syndicated by a bunch of different news agencies, RSS feeds, search engines, etc - meaning that the more sites they wind up on, the better it is for you.

Spinning your press releases is a waste of time, so don't worry about it

Duplicate content is a myth for the most part. Go ahead change them up a bit and just switch the titles up a bit they should all get indexed.

It is great if you can take the time to customize them for different ones, if not I wouldn't worry about it too much. Here is a list of more places to submit Press Releases - Submit Press Releases

Time for the question of the day.

What is the purpose of submitting your Press Release?

Your strategy sounds like your purpose is only to get a back link from the Press Release sites. The proper use of a press release to outlets is to have it picked up and used on websites, blogs, news publications, etc...

Choose a few of the highest quality Press Release sites you have, make the press release EXCELLENT, filled with VALUE, and in the proper format, and you might eliminate your need to do so much work.

No no. I'm actually using the PR to announce the launch of a brand new site. Yes I am looking for backlinks too of course but I'm looking for traffic overall.

Thanks for your advice too! Very useful!
