I know everyone is talking about 'list building' and building valuable relationships with their internal lists, but has anyone had any positive results/ROI with purchasing email lists and selling any products/services?

Haven't purchased a list, but I use Blast4Traffic which is a safelist and seems to have good results for me.

    Hi Simon

Would never recommend buying lists. You simply do not know where the subscribers are from and how the previous owner has treated them.

    Best regards

The problem I see with buying a list apart from the obvious risk of being branded a spammer, is the list will be really cold so I would have thought the response would be very small.

Try and build a list, I know it can be laborious but at least you know the subject they've responded to.

Hi Barry I am currently building a list with my current online merchant company. It is strictly a whitehat business model in which we sell skincare products globally. The traffic we get here is decent and many people sign up daily without a squeeze page or ebook offering.

I am simply trying to get more info/advice on buying email lists- from which it seems that 95% of people are not in favour of doing so for the obvious reasons.

It sounds like an easy way to make money right? Buy a list that the previous owner told you was built marking x-product, and then continue marketing products to the list relating to x-product. That's why it's so easy to get scammed, because it sounds so nice. The list you purchase will be crap. Some things you really don't know:

    - where the list came from
    - how often it was emailed
    - when the last time it was emailed
    - what was marketed to it
    - are they even real addresses?

    I could go on...

haha you can listen to all of those people if you want..but i buy list all the time because it works....

but the way i do it is so that im not coming off as a spammer...ill have the owner blast out an email customized by me, that way im not looking like a spammer.

from here my email has a link in it to send them to my squeeze page or blog. ill track this so that i know where the leads came from.

and you keep the good leads and obviously the ones that didnt signup ..oh well

so if you bought a list for with 1,000 subscribers but you only got 50 leads out of it thats still great, thats awesome...if you know anything about priming your list and how to properly market to them...

people that say you cant do this...or this doesnt work... are all probably people who just never was able to get it to work for them...

also check out DOE directory of ezines..i always get good results with them..

Ummm this has nothing to do with what we are talking about. We are talking about BUYING a list. By that I mean actually buying a list of email addresses from someone else. You are just talking about about an email swap, everyone does this.

no im talking about buying a list to...

an email swap he would just let me send an email to his list for a price..boom thats it.

but i take it a step further...i actually buy the list from him, but i have him send a few emails for me....ill get the majority of his list to sign up to my list just from those emails alone.

then i work on the list (that i purchased to suck even more leads out of the list)....

the reason (like i said before) that i ask him to send emails for me intially is just because of the trust factor..they know this guy, not me, so i'll get more leads by asking a trusted source to send the email for me..

i've never had a problem with a list owner before that wanted to sell a list.

    Hi Swaggs

Interesting concept and thanks for sharing. My 2 cents - would it not be easier to arrange a solo ad with the list owner instead. That way you would not have to buy his list and still get the active subscribers to your list.

    Best regards

    Nigel

I second the Directory of Ezines. Plus you get private, phone consultations with Charlie Page, the Owner who's been online for more than 10 years (and what he does is still working!)

Instead of buying a list, I'd say contact someone you trust who has a list. Offer to pay that person to send out an email to everyone on the list saying that they should go check out this cool site (your opt-in). You obviously won't get 100% of the numbers the original list had, but it will be a nice and targeted list.

so you buy the list. what's the best service to use to email the list. Aweber and others require the list to be with people who opted in directly with you and not through someone else.

Am I right? Thanks for any help.
