Best Font?

I don't understand your question -- police? I don't think you're talking about law enforcement officers, but I can't figure out what you mean.

The only word I can think of that's close is policy, but if that's the case I still don't know what you're asking about.

Haha sorry about that, I meant the font (like Times New Roman, Calibri, etc) Police is the french word for that thing. My bad! Thanks for answering I would never have figured out why nobody is answering.

You learn something new every day!

For online, sans serif fonts are usually considered best for readability, while for offline materials, a typewriter-like serif font is better.

I like to use several styles when doing long write ups and different colors on fonts to prevent peoples eyes from becoming tired, best thing is to experiment. Don't over do it either or it will look like a kid did it. But one point I will say...........everyone and thier mother uses New Roman Times....so I always avoid it and try to be more original.

The fonts I use for building websites are Verdana and Arial. They are clear to see and look good on the web page, as opposed to for instance Times New Roman, which in my opinion looks terrible.

Lucida Handwriting or Comic Sans MS.

Just kidding. Verdana is your best bet for an all around san serif font, Georgia for a serif font.

courier and courier new are indicated in the research I've done
on the topic. Everybody has personal preferences and will
make assumptions.

My goal is comprehension. Courier gets read.

Then stay with Verdana or Arial if your goal is to sell via a website. They are proven winners.

For headlines, I use Georgia.

Sometimes sans-serif can be perceived with more credibility, but I'm not sure if that has been proved with figures.

Whatever you go with, for body text it's either Georgia (not Times) or Verdana (not Arial). For headlines, probably some kind of bold sans-serif (although a serif worked well for Eben Pagan's famous squeeze page).

It's hard to be pedantic without figures.

Edit: Just noticed Loren commenting on Courier. I can never for the life of me understand why Courier is used. I despise it for reading. However, the figures may well show it to have better results (Carlton wouldn't use it for nothing). I just can't figure out why.

Try testing fonts... I know it sounds kind of weird but make the font something for one week and see how you do then change it for the next week. Once you get the results you want keep testing

. The only way you will know for sure that your doing the best you can possibly be doing is to test your work. My favorite is Courier (I like the old school feel of it) and Verdana (looks professional but new age to me for some reason) by the way but don't take my word for it.

My personal choice would be Georgia, Verdana & Arial...

And I won't recommend you to use Times New Roman...

  It's not just font type but also font size.
  
  Too big can also make a font difficult to read or change the quality of the readability.
  Try changing from 12px to 14px to 16px too see the difference.
  
  (you may use % or em or keywords small, large etc... depending on how W3C you are!)
  
  Color plays a part too. Test it with it different blacks (#999999, #333333 etc...)
  
  You can use Times for H1 titles and arial for <p> to break up the page into sections.
  
  Sometimes there have been some sites that are too neat and can prove difficult to read...
