Is Facebook PPC more effective that Google PPC?

Now that Facebook has 550,000 million active users, does this give more value to Facebook PPC?

I want to start using PPC to generate more traffic to my site. However, I would like to know your thoughts on how effective one is versus the other.

From what i've been reading, Facebook focuses more on profile information (more targeted) while Google still relies on keyword search terms.

Facebook is better I think personally. But with google PPC you can get highly targeted traffic but facebook has more members So in truth I dont have a clue. I do seo in stead of ppc its cheaper and more effective.

    Hey Juan!

In my experience, Facebook advertisements is more effective, more cheaper, and more targeted than Google Adwords.

For a clear explanation on this controversial topic you should check out my thread on Facebook PPC vs. Google Adwords PPC...

    Hope this helps.

I have found through testing that it isn't as effective as Adwords.

Yes Facebook advertising is cheaper. Yes it has a huge user base to pull from and displays relevant ads to the right people.

However Google displays ads when a person is searching for something. Searching shows intent. Intent to gather knowledge or to purchase something.

People that are browsing on Facebook are just surfing. People that are surfing are less likely to click on an ad and if they do they ware less likely to return to your site, opt-in and buy something.

Its like Stumbleupon (which I just made a post about), the traffic is super cheap and you can drive some big numbers to your site. But how many optins & sales are you going to get?

I wouldn't say 1 is more effective than the other necessarily. Adwords is extremely targeted when done correctly, hard to beat really.

If you understand Facebooks user mentality and why they're on the site, then you can really leverage it's power and trust.

Chad's on the money here. The success varies from niche to niche. You need to understand the mentallity of people on Facebook. Sure, you can target specific demographics, such as females aged 21-25 who like pink lollypops. But then again, your ads appear on Facebook pages. The user may like pink lollipops, but she isn't SEARCHING for them.

Adwords is good if done correctly because the user is actually SEARCHING for the service you are offering.

Either method takes experience to really harness their power, and I suggest you do a lot of research before jumping into either method if you want a profitable campaign.

    Hi Juan,

You are true that Facebook has over 500 Million Users. But from my experience, the users donot spend money.

I have invested and lost a lot of moneyon FB Ads. The thing is, you really need to target the people well if you are using the ads.

But, not to forget, Facebook PPC is MUCH MUCH cheaper than Adwords.

But on the other side, I think that Adwords has worked a LOT better for me. I am not saying i made $10k per month or something, but it has surely worked a lot better than Facebook PPC.

But, Adwords is MORE expensive. So thats the thing.

A method you can use to get cheap targeted traffic to your website is by finding blogs and websites related to your niche with high traffic, and usually such websites allow people to advertise on them. Maybe by using a banner or text link. Such sites usually have an Advertise webpage.

The thing is, this method is targeted and MUCH MUCH cheaper.

I use Facebook advertising and Google PPC and realize they are both good....if you know what you are doing.

The trick here is to track your conversions and test your copy.

    • I agree that Facebook is excellent for List Building and way cheaper then Adwords.

Giving away something for free to entice opt-in is the way to go.

I am currently achieving great results with Facebook in the IM niche at a fraction of what Adwords costs.

Yes, the CTR is much lower then Adwords but that is simply the nature of the business model and the two really should not be compared. Anything above 0.1% is considered excellent.

Google is better in a matter of CPC and CTR and simple conversion.
But with Facebook PPC you can convert loads of users into fans - and then use your fan group power, if you know how to.
