  Well I definitely think that it will give skype a run for the money, considering it is integrated with an already existing email platform.
  
  This company is unbelievable and unstoppable.

  Angela, I am with ya....I have seen this around. In fact it has been a around for years. There is a great MLM Company VMDirect who began promoting about 3 years ago...They were the first to take this technology to the next level. MSN, Yahoo and others had been playing with for years prior to that...but the technology just wasn't there...neither was the user base.
  
  The simple fact is though....Google Revolutionized it....and broke it down into a compatible and user friendly platform.
  
  This will change the dynamics of business....then once it gets to crackberry's etc....Lordy Lordy

I love google flaws and all. The company just keeps on putting out really cool products. I just tried this out with a gmail friend, all I can say is "pretty damn cool."

I am really glad to hear about this because Skype has been acting up last week so it is definitely good to have an alternative to accomplish the same thing. Even better that it's also a free tool for us to use. Thanks for pointing this out.

yeah, I saw that yesterday. This will definitely have Skype looking for new features and new tools. One thing that I don't think Google does is have the ability to record the conversation, or do they?

Does anyone know?

In regards to Google, for some strange reason, I keep thinking that Google wants to dominate the entire Internet in every way possible. There was one other company that was dominating and still trying to dominate the software world. Hmmm?

It was just a matter of time before the Big G did this. They have a knack for making things simple (except for adwords!) so this is a natural for them. The more eyeballs looking at ads in their gmail panels the better.

Well, that is simply amazing. I cannot wait to try and test that out.

I am on a PC, so I wonder if there will be much lag in the video. I know on a Mac streaming video is much easier. On the PC there is usually a lag time between the time your mouth moves and the voices heard. Not much, but a little bit.

  Since sometimes reading "lol" doesn't deliver the same punch as actually hearing your friend laugh at your jokes, you can now use voice and video capabilities in your Gmail chat. From within Gmail, you can have an actual conversation with someone (seriously, out loud), or even chat face to face over video.
  
  Here's what you'll need to get started:
  
  * Download the Gmail voice and video chat plug-in, quit all open browser windows, and install the plug-in.
  * Sign in to Gmail.
  * In the Chat section of your Gmail, select the contact you want to call. If they have a camera icon next to their name, you can make a voice or video call to them; just click Video & more.
  
  If your friend doesn't have a camera next to their name in your chat list, you can invite them to download the Gmail voice and video chat plug-in from the Video & more menu in a chat window. Even if your friend doesn't have a video camera, you can still make a voice call or a 1-way video call.

I can't wait to check this out. I've got a sister living in Africa (I'm in the States) and Skype has been letting us down over the past couple of weeks.

I love everything Google is trying to do. What a great company--the anti-Microsoft.

What a world. All you need is a computer, and internet connection, and a webcam.
