Advice for first product

I have had more than 1.5 years experience in freelancing and have made quite a lot of money by it. While I started freelancing I found out that it is not always easy to get a job or retain your client and specially newbies find it very difficult to get their first job.
So, what I am thinking was to create a e-book that gives not only a newbie but also a little experienced freelancer how to make it big in freelancing and then sell it in CB or CJ for a very low fees.
Do you think it is a good idea and how should I start with it? Can anyone show me the steps to create a good and powerful e-book?

You don't say in what area you've been freelancing, but the first steps would be to make sure that there's a large enough market for your product; that this market is already purchasing similar products, and that you can reach your prospects in a cost-effective manner.

I wouldn't begin writing a page of your eBook until you've answered those questions.

      Thanks for your reply.

How will I able to know whether anyone is buying the related products in the market or not and the size of the market?

Think like a consumer, play around with Google imaginatively and see if there are similar products being sold. Look at Clickbank, Shareasale, Commission Junction, PayDotCom and so on to see if any overlapping products are sold. And look at some suitable keywords (getting suggestions from the Wonder Wheel and/or External Keyword Research Tool - both free), and see if there's a good, wide range of AdWords ads being displayed. If there are few of them, and you see exactly the same ones coming round again and again all the time, that may be an indication that it isn't much of a buying niche.

        You research it.

I'm sure you've learnt a fair bit about your market during your 1.5 years of freelancing. Is there a reasonable demand for freelancers in your field?

Are there already similar products on CB or CJ?

When you type your market-related keywords into a search engine, are there paying ads on the results page? How many people are searching for your keywords?

If you're still uncertain, create a short report and offer it free to start building a prospects list - that should help you gauge demand as well as giving you some potential buyers.

Absolutely this is great idea. There is definitely a market, what you want to do is take a look around at the top selling books and other programs available to see how you can be different.

Put your finger on the #1 frustration newbie or unsuccessful freelancers are wrestling with?

Is it getting started? Finding customers? Keeping a consistent project flow? Meeting deadlines? Managing their customers?

While you can cover more than one of these in your ebook, you want to really dig in to pick the one that is the most emotional, the one that hits the rawest of nerves and make that the focus of your book positioning.

Also - in your market research (finding out what else is out there) - that should also give you some guidance to what "type" of product may be most desired as well as a relative price point.

What we have found helping many others create info product businesses is that there are usually thousands scraping the bottom with low-end products and relatively fewer targeting the more serious, higher end customers - so that may be something to think about.

What about those freelancers that have tasted initial success or are transitioning from another career where they have money in their pockets? How can you target them with a quick-start program that offers a coaching, membership or ongoing support aspect (email, teleseminar, etc...) and charge a few hundred dollars instead of a $27 ebook....things to think about :-)

Here is a video on ebook creation & marketing to watch that should help get things rolling

I did some research on the topic and on some keywords. It did not give a favorable result and it seems there are very few products that are on sale and most people are searching to find jobs and not for any freelance guide kinda thing.
So, I guess there goes my plan...

If you sell it for a very low price, it may be rather difficult to interest affiliates in promoting it.

Whether or not it's a good idea depends on whether there's market demand for the product: there's no point in investing your time, energy and hopes in producing a product that doesn't already have a proven exisiting market of buyers.

That's the easy part. I'm sure many Warriors can help you with that part. But are you ready for that part yet?

Edited to add: sorry, I was typing while Frank was posting, above, and hadn't seen his post: it turns out I could just have said "I agree with Frank".

It's a good idea. The first thing to do is to start collecting or researching the contents. The next thing is to piece them together sequentially so that they will make sense. That is, which of the contents should come first, second, and so on.
