People following me on twitter out of nowhere

Hi

I have twitter account like many of you here.

Usually I would have 1 or 2 people following me per week. Today I already have 5 people following me.

How can I find out where they are coming from?

I havent done very much to expose my twitter

The same thing happened to me, and it seemed to start after Ezinearticles started following me (they must do this for all writers after they get to a certain amount of articles, or maybe it's something they just started.)

I signed up with Twitter a long time ago but haven't done a thing with it yet. Now I'm paying more attention to it!

  • You probably twittered on a popular topic that was featured somewhere (maybe even on the twitter site) and people started following you from that.

Has anyone recently started a twitter dialogue with you using @replies?

Sometimes when you get a two way convo going with another use by way of the @replies that user's followers will start coming over to scope out your profile, and possibly give you a follow.

It could be for any number of reasons, some of which were already mentioned. If you have not done much to get your twitter ID out there then they most likely are coming from some of these options:

    1. Other people you are following. - People search and follow others that are following the same people. They think you are in the same niche perhaps.

    2. You @someone and they @you back. All their followers see your Twitter ID and check you out. They think you are worth following.

    3. Twitter Search. - People use Twitter search to search for a specific topic or term and found you Tweeted something about it and decide to follow you.

    4. Public Timeline. - When you tweet it shows up on the main page along with everyones current tweets. It is up very shortly, but some people will see it and follow if it interests them.

Those are just some of the ways random people follow you that you don't expect. It also shows you what you can do to gain more followers by doing more of the "right" things that attract followers.
