Why do people do this???

Hi Warriors,

I'm trying to figure out what I should do about a few members of one of
my sites.

I have at least 6 members that paid $197 to join and continue to pay $67
a month every month to remain a member.

None of these members have logged in to the private site more than twice
and none of them have asked any questions since the day they joined?

Why would someone do this and not take advantage of what they are
spending their money on? It is a coaching/mentoring type program
where they ask questions and receive answers.

I was thinking of just Refunding them their money and giving them the
boot. My program is for Go Getter's not people that just want to belong to
something.

Should I refund them and be done with them or continue to allow them to
pay for the privilege of being a member?

What's the right thing to do in your opinion and/or what would you do?

Thanks,
Have a Great Day/Night!
Michael

Michael - They may be comfortable paying you just in case they ever want to pop in. I'd let them keep their subscription, they may be too busy right now but will want to use it later.

I'd send them a "friendly reminder" email first.

    They probably forgot they joined.

I think a polite email pointing out that they don't seem to be using the membership and asking if they were happy with the content provided.

You could then add that you would be happy to refund their money if they are unhappy.

Michael, one thing I have learned is never try to figure out what your
people are thinking and doing. I have had people buy products from me and
write to me 6 months later that they're first starting to look at the material.

If they're paying for the site, there could be a number of reasons why they
are and not doing anything YET. If you want to email them and ask them how
they're doing, fine. But don't assume they're deadbeats and kick them out.

You just never know what the whole story is.

One of my rules for life:

Always remember you just never know whats going on with people you don't spend 24 hours everyday with. No matter how sure you are you do know, you do not.

I don't necessarily see this as a negative thing as I think that's the way 'the thing' was designed.

I'd send them a note reminding them of their subscription, and offer to cancel the subscription if they are no longer interested (but I wouldn't offer to refund any previous charges).

Ya if they paid for the subscription, the best thing to do is remind them that they joined and have a link for them to easily unsubscribe. Seems like hte fairest way

  • Michael;

Have you tried sending out reminder emails? Not "hey, you didn't login recently, login so I know you're still alive" or anything like that.

Give a case study. Talk about what someone recently did as a result of your program, and invite those members to come back and take a look at the resources that person used.

Encourage them to login to the members area with new content (even if that wasn't the intention of the program.) Then you can keep them as paying members and "be there for them" when they decide to use the membership, but still give them value so you don't feel bad.

Try sending out emails to them first and see their response. You can find out if they are interested in continuing their subscription or not. Don't conclude that they are not interested in participating in your program because they have not logged in for a long time. May be they want to when they have time and unless they want to withdraw from your program, you don't have to refund their subscription. Try contacting them and find out their views.
