Writing Amazon Product Reviews: Length?

I'm in the process of writing a whole lot of reviews for Amazon product sites. I'm planning on writing hundreds of them and so far I've been getting 20-30 per day done. Some of them are 250 words, some of them are 1200 words, depending on what I can think of to write about that product.

Here is my question: what should I be shooting for? At the moment, I'm writing everything I think will be valuable, but I wonder: is 1200 words overkill? I know 250 words isn't really enough. Is it even enough for google to index the page? The ones that are 250ish words are products that are really hard to say a lot about because the photo is the main description on the site and well....you kind of just get an idea of exactly what it is based on the photo.

I'd appreciate any thoughts any experienced Amazon affiliates have on this matter. Thanks :-)

  • My opinion, if you're going for bulk rather than quality, keep these as short 300 to 400 word reviews.

Develop a standard format for them, that way you're being consistent and readers know you're personally writing these (that you have their best interests at heart).

Make sure you have your affiliate links visible at both the top and bottom of the review, and perhaps do some internal linking to other pages of your site of other products that your readers should consider.

Depends if you are trying to give the consumer all the information they need before leaving your site for other information. I also do review sites but I'm following the suggestions made in Paula & Wanda's course (no, I'm not an affiliate, just a very satisfied customer). They believe that more is better and suggest at least a 1000 word review. When you write a review that is that length then it gives the consumer everything they need to make an informed purchase so that they don't click away from your site to gather additional information.

Hope that helps. Good luck to you!

If you're trying to push out a large amount of reviews, then 250-300 words is all you need. Amazon does a good job of describing their products, so you don't really need to do all that. Just give a few pros and cons with a read more link to Amazon.

As for writing long reviews, I'm not a fan of it. As an affiliate, I want the potential customer on the merchant's site as fast as I can get them there.

This time of year, a lot of people have already made up their mind that they want a particular product. All you should be doing is providing them with a little more information, maybe a couple of actual customer comments, and cementing their desire for the product.

Don't get so wrapped up in making money that you forget the important things in life.

I think it's a 'horses for courses' issue. How many words does it take you to give enough information to pre-sell the product?

For a fishing lure, a picture and a few words might be enough.

For a sonar/radar/gps combo, you might need 1,500 words.

I think you should write products in the same category or at least related so that your site won't be too diluted with keywords.
