Help me pick a business model for selling a product

Hello,

I am working a product (ebook), but I am constantly debating with myself how to go about selling it. I am thinking about 2 business models at this time:

1. Make a product website (just a sales letter, order link, terms of use..), put the ebook on clickbank. Find affiliates by contacting people with lists/blogs etc. Try to drive traffic to the website with article marketing. Price the book on the lower side (22-37$).Build a customer list from the buyers of the book and try to promote other stuff to them.

---or---

2. Create a website with my articles (about 20-30 of them to start with). Sell the ebook on the content site (the sales page is on the content site). Try to build a list from all visitors. Work on link building with articles etc. Basically, something along the lines of doubleyourdating.com. Send a lot of content to the list and of course, try to sell the book and promote products from other authors. Don't rely of affiliates, but work on seo and building a list and then converting them to customers.

The market is one of the big ones (fitness related).

Help me pick the right business model. Any suggestions from people who have gone through this is highly appreciated.

I use the first method you mentioned BUT I also do a bit of method two as well. I like to focus mainly on building my affiliate base up and really working with them.

However, there is no reason you can't use both when you think about it. They are not mutually exclusive. Why not create two separate sites that utilize both. Affiliates don't like it when you capture leads (they just want a straight up sales page). So give them what they want while doing what YOU want on either a separate domain or a subdomain on your main site. Either will work well.

It will be quite a bit more work but you really can have your cake and eat it too.

    Cheers,
    Matt

I vote for method #1 as well...

Do this, create your salespage for your book... give out one leaked chapter for free; users will access the free report through an optin form (all this in your sales letter).... you will start to build your list... contact vendors of products in your niche and offer them your free report to be included inside their thank you page. Their buyers will have to optin to your form to get their bonus book... and you continue to build your list...

    Long Term, Do Both..

Short Term, Do No:1. Create your product and sales page first. Then test and tweak the conversion with PPC traffic. If it sells well and is attractive to partners, then go all out and get affiliates to promote the offer.

Then to generate more traffic build a content site like this - Official Double Your Dating | David DeAngelo's Double Your Dating

... then build a list and sell your product with constant followup. Study everything that Eban Pagan does on this site - Official Double Your Dating | David DeAngelo's Double Your Dating - after all it makes over $20 million year..

    Then
