What are natural looking anchor text?

I plan to submit articles to the top 5 article directories but don't want to use the same anchor text. I know in googles eyes having a variety of anchor text combinations help your websites backlinks look natural.

Lets say I use www.mywebsite.com, http://www.mywebsite.com, or mywebsite.com. Does google see these are different? Or how about if I want to rank high for "how to play guitar":

learning to play guitar
to play guitar online
steve @ to play guitar

The above keeps my prime keyword I want to rank for "how to play guitar" but cuts off from the back/front or adds to keep at least 3/5 words in the original order.

Or does google like somthing where you mess the order up a lot while just using the word guitar for this example:

teaching yourself guitar
playing the guitar
learning the guitar

Or does google just care that you are not just using "how to play guitar" 1000's of times? Thanks.

hey dean, not really sure i know everything you're asking here...
maybe how to make the anchor text "how to play guitar?"
you would use html. for example:
how to play guitar and this will create a link for how to play guitar linking back to your website .
is that what you are asking?

I'm certainly no expert, but if I was trying to rank for "how to play guitar" and wanted anchor link to look natural, I'd do this:

    - lots of "how to play guitar"
    - some "learning how to play guitar", "here's how to play guitar", and other variations that keep my keyphrase in order
    - some with the URL only
    - a few "click here"s

As long as there is some variation, it will look fairly natural (I think).

Both Gail and BG have it right. Gail gave you a nice profile of natural links. I'll add that you should be getting links from a variety of sources - article pages, bookmarks, social sites, etc. It's even quite natural for a new site to submit to a large number of directories.

And BG is right in that keyword anchored links from a handful of article directories are unlikely to raise any red flags.

5 is too little to make any difference one way or the other.

50000 might cause you problems, maybe.
