What does reverse engineering a competitors site and how do I go about doing it?

    I think that would be referred to as "cloning". It is common for people copy other people's successful business models and roll out a similar site or software.

    Some people have way too much time on their hands. Instead of trying to copy your competitor's site, try building your own business. Much more productive.

      You can look at the obvious site structure on the page to see what they are doing or Right Click "view page source" if you are using Firefox to see their HTML code if you want to see how their page is constructed.

      But finding their back linking and SEO tactics can be different.

      A common way people do this is by searching yahoo to find competitors pages and in links to find all the back links they were building.

      However, one of the best ways I've found do to this is using a site
      called compete.com where you can add in a few of you competing pages and look at what keywords they have ranked for and how much traffic they are bringing in from the keywords.
