Any Success With Affiliate Campaigns in Japan?

I was just speaking with one of my affiliates from China and he is having issues with our gateway and we had a long conversation about the Asian market etc... and how difficult it is to monetize chinese traffic.

anyways... made me look at my EPCs ... Theres alot in Asia that goes unmonetized ... Philippines is a difficult market, so is Indonesia, how friendster.com operates is beyond me... i'll be checking their ads via geoedge in an hour or so but one thing i cant figure out... is Japan... theres tons of $$$ in japan, huge consumer base etc..

has anyone here ever had a really successful affiliate campaign in Japan?

i'd love to here your stories

Of course it is more difficult to sell things to a foreign country...because you don't know their language, culture, etc. etc.

Unless you have lived in Japan, it would be hard to sell to those people... but it is not impossible. I am marketing to English Teachers in Japan, Taiwan, China, etc. (See sig).

But I am sure that Japanese IM do most of their marketing to Japaese peoplel; while most of your marketing is geared towards American, Canadians, etc.

I have been in Japan for 15 years and I would not even consider marketing to the Japanese. The majority are quite insular. There is still suspicion of Facebook and many are scared of any form of spending money on-line.

Add to that the language (huge barrier), and it is not worth the hassle…leave Japan to the Japanese is my advice :-)

Is there an American product Japanese people are hot about right now? Other than Apple, which does a good job on its own and doesn't need your help? As far as I know, right at this moment Japanese are not "in love" with anything American (other than Apple, especially because it's an alternative to Samsung, which is Korean, which makes it unattractive to the Japanese).

Japanese people like plenty of foreign goods. Trendy fashion is something that does well in Japan.

True, but they like food that they 'fits' their stereotype. They also like things that other countries consider nothing special. beaujolais nouveau ha the largest sales in Japan and is thought of as top quality here...

The foreign food they like is not always what you may think.

In Philippines, it is easy to monetize if your site is selling physical products. Language barrier s not a problem.

In Japan, language is the main problem.

Anyway, regardless of country, there are always some way to monetize. I have a Korean Drama blog and the top 6 visitors are US, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The site still converts pretty with non-US visitors.
