The Sandbox Effect (in theory)

So here's my question:

If you have a subdomain that gets sandboxed by Google (let's say it's an autoblog or something) would that "sandbox" also affect your main domain?

subdomain.domain.com (this site gets sandboxed)
domain.com (what will likely happen to this site?)

To take it one step further... what if domain.com/blog got sandboxed? Would that apply to domain.com as well?

Thanks!

In the case of subdomains google often treats them differently, and they can even have different ownership. Keep in mind that google also has access to registrar information, so that could be something they check. When you are talking about folders on a site, I would say a penalty would be applied sitewide. That may not always be the case with subdomains.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

As far as I know, search engines treat subdomains as a unique domains so, if "subdomain.domain.com" is sandboxed then "NO" it will not sandbox "domain.com" but if "domain.com/folder" then sure the whole "domain.com" will be sandboxed.

Does Google knows the actual registrar information if people are using private registration with services like "Domains by Proxy"? If "Yes" how do you know?

They don't appear as separate websites in Google so I would say they both get sandboxed. Behave badly enough and all your sites get punished, it is quite easy for them to link them to you.

If Google find a link between the subdomain and the main domain will punish the both sites. They will check the ownership , and they will see for sure!
