Hi all,

i just wanted to know does it matter if i choose a domain name the same as my competitor but have a .org or .info ?

My biggest competitor has the .com and .co.uk domain but i want the .net.org domain name. will i be breaking any rules here? as it will be the same business name.

If they have it trademarked, you can run into problems. It's called domain squatting when someone buys a trademarked domain (say google.info if that were available). The trademark owner can sue you.

If it's just another blogger or affiliate marketer, you're probably ok.

You will have problems if the domain is well established. I did this before and had problems getting pages indexed and getting traffic.
