Why aren't more IM'ers talking about this?!("Weppy")

Hey guys.

I'm not sure if anyone have paid attention to google's news lately...
I just heard about it a few days ago, and expected IM'ers and SEO experts alike to talk about it, but I haven't seen a single thread yet.

What I'm talking about, is of course google's own, new image format!

It's called WebP (pronounced "weppy"), and is a more effective solution to using images online. According to google, it's 39,8% more space-effective than normal jpeg images, and is meant to improve pageloading speed and "improve the web".

Regarding SEO, I'm quite certain that it will be of great benefit to many websites to start using this image format asap.

Not only will it reduce bandwidth usage and pageloading speed (Which is an on-page ranking factor itself), but it's also google's own product, meaning they probably will give it some SEO love.

What's your thought's on this?
Do you think it will/won't be a hit and why?
