How to style up adsense

Guys , how do i style an adsense block?

I want to give it the same line height and text style in my side bar as my widgets - but it looks so out of place.

I've tried CSS - but it would appear that the styling happens at the end of the page so the google side CSS overrides what ever i do!

Any thought?

I can't call myself an expert by any means, but I don't think it's possible. The script calls the ads, those settings (CSS) are called server-side (G's ad server) so I'm fairly sure any styling is handled at run-time of the script. I did some searching and could only find info about wrapping it in a prettier border, for instance, but not in-ad manipulation. (also, be careful with code mod that might be interpreted as against ToS) I'm not here to debate if this would or not (even if it were possible).

Like dv8 said, you don't want it to blend in too much because if it looks like a part of the site you can get the ban stick from the big G. Personally, the more it stands out the better. Ugly ads do better than professional ones IMO.

I couldn't agree more, the uglier the better. I've tried to explain this to people but I've given up.

You should use the code exactly as it is generated in the AdSense webmaster area and you should not try to be clever about trying to change the appearance of the ads. Google takes a dim view of stretching the rules.

Sure, but if you take a look at my blog

You'll see the adsense block right down the bottom of the sidebar. Now i would want to move it of course, but it just looks so out of place in style terms - how would you guys suggest placing/colouring that ad to do better?

PS... to skip the popup on the page load click the little orange cross top right of the popup window.

Hmm.. haven’t heard of using CSS to edit it. I just change the borders, colors, and banner style on the main post field or sidebar. I use contrasting colors to my adsense borders just to make sure that they will catch attention. I also agree with the concept of the uglier the better. Making it look more fancy will just appeal as another element of the site and will not totally catch the attention of the buyers.

As far as I know, you can edit only the colors of your ads in AdSense Setup / Color Pallete.

It makes sense it's unified, because after all - it is not your service, you're just renting space for it.

You can change the background, color of the text etc to any html color you want. So background black, text white!
