Video interview w/ Young Internet Millionaire- Matt Mickiewicz

Hey guys,

Last week Yahoo Finance had a story on the front page about "Young Internet Millionaires". One of the entrepreneurs featured was Matt Mickiewicz - founder of SitePoint.com, Flippa.com and 99designs.com.

I just did a video interview with Matt to discover how he has started and grown not just 1 but 3 successful online businesses. We go over how to get business ideas, how to drive traffic, how to provide value, how to grow your business by selling info products and more.

www.StartupFreedom.com/matt-mickiewicz-interview/

It was great to learn the secrets of someone mentioned in the same breath as Michael Dell (Dell Computers) and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook).

What do you think about Matt's advice?

(here's the link to that Yahoo finance article: http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work...rklife_balance)

It's a shame more people won't end up seeing this interview, you did a great job with an awsome guest.

Buried in that interview are a few golden nuggets that people really need to hear.

Kudos for putting that together, and thanks for sharing it here.

Far and away the biggest nugget of all was his understanding of what it actually takes to make it big on the internet. Hearing it firsthand from someone that truly knows the steps required was refreshing to say the least.

I'll say this again phrasing it in a different way...if you haven't watched both videos (they're not long) you are cheating yourself out of some good stuff.

                Great interview.

Here is what you should really make a note of.

"M: I think the best thing to do is to create awesome, awesome content and I'm not talking about outsourcing content writing for $5 an hour to Pakistan or something. If you get awesome content people will link back to you, people will Tweet your content, people will share it on FaceBook, you'll get good rankings on Google. Investing in content is basically how we built Site Point. We don't really have much of a marketing budget. Our budget is our content budget..."

I agree that this point and the mindset behind it was one of the highlights!

At the risk of stepping on some toes...

I say the biggest takeaway from this interview is NOT the "information" within. While it's still great advice, there's nothing "new" about it, is there? But that's not the point.

The point is, I really appreciated this interview for three reasons.

(And it gave me a mind-shift in perspective. Which is cool.)

See, as things got rolling, I first got the impression Matt was lacking both confidence in himself... and with others. But as I quickly discovered...

I could NOT have been MORE wrong! Because by the time the interview was over...

I was thinking something totally different, entirely.

Hidden in plain sight we've got an amazing example of a man who's passionate about and LOVES what he does... and how he's giving back to his world.

And this is key: he does it in the best way he knows how.

The ONLY thing he cares about is how valuable his service is to his users, and what they think about THAT SERVICE. NOT what they think about him as a person.

(And there I was, judging without knowledge... shame on me!)

What I wrongly perceived to be a "lack of confidence" at first... was simply the demeanor of a humble man with a soft-spoken enthusiasm for impacting the lives of others in big way.

    Basically my point is...

Fear of critcism is a huge obstacle that gets in the way for many of us. It can hinder our success in general at low levels. And on a grand scale, it makes the "possibility of success" a moot point... because OF COURSE it's possible for you and anyone who wants it bad enough.

(I know I have personally suffered from this lingering fear in the back of my mind of looking stupid in public, or of being ridiculed. It's not pretty. But I've decided this is normal, and you must overcome it if you have to, if you want to succeed in a big way.)

    So to finish up...

Here are my three biggest takeaways from your interview:

    (1) if you've struggled with an enduring problem, then there's a good chance many others are frustrated with the same problem. And if you've fought an uphill battle to overcome this problem... and you finally found the solution... it's very likely to be valuable to other people as well.

    (2) you have to embrace the fact that you have the solution, and run with it. IMMEDIATELY. Resist the urge to get it "perfect" right out of the gate. Not everyone will find the same exact "things" or "features" necessary. So you will simply get better at giving them what they want... as you go along.

If you remember your audience is ultimately after the end result, then the path to getting there can (and will) change over time. The only thing constant is change.

    And finally...

    (3) be yourself, and don't be afraid to stand out from the crowd. In fact, stand out (as yourself) intentionally on purpose. People will automatically drawn to your unique authenticity by a huge, huge margin. HUGE.

If you have something to teach, say, or do... and you can benefit other people... then just do it. If you know about it, then it's pretty much your duty to help others and lead by example. As you rely on others feedback about your product (or service) and NOT about your character... you can only improve from here on out.

No one can EVER do what you do, just the way you do it. Embrace it.

    My fourteen cents.

P.S. I never knew who owned all three of those sites. Awesome interview. Thanks.

    Good interview Sean.

Call me slow (or British) but the first few times I heard interviews with this guy I couldnt place his accent. He sounded kind of American, but not quite.

I later found out...after much embarassment..that the accent was Canadian

      Hahhaah Flip, yes he does.

Although Matt I believe is Scandinavian in background and also has a slight speech impediment (so do I).

      Canadian usually sounds like American.

Here's the givaway. Listen to how a person says the word "About". If it sounds like "a boat' they're 'prolly Canadian

Cool interview! The thing that I really got from it was that you need to have patience. This is something that a lot of people including myself need to have.

I agree 100%. I get super impatient sometimes too. Its natural to want results now. Weather its reasonable is a different question!

What I really took away from this interview is how he tested his ideas (for free) before he invested in them. Thats so smart. Prove there is a market before investing!
